I kissed Xiaomi Goodbye and this is what I got: Samsung Galaxy A25

I would not get Poco as its expensive and don't need it for whatsapping.

Look at the Redmi range. Lots of affordable options for the kid , it will be cheaper and outperform whatever Samsung brings at half the price.

I bought a Redmi Note 13 two months ago. On special for R3500. What a excellent phone it is turning out to be. Love it's speed, display, stereo speakers, build quality.....in fact everything about it.

Takealot and Amazon have been sitting without stock of it for almost 2 months now but Edgars etc still have some stock. Act now before they also are sold out.

Basically a Redmi Note 14 5G for cheaper. And you can get it in a girly lavender colour...
Thanks for the input gents, I really appreciate it. Any thoughts on the 14C (or 13C)?

It's crap. She'll be complaining about it bogging down within a few months and it doesn't have an OLED display to help the battery go further.

My wife got a 13C for her side hustle and I had to reset that thing to factory default 4 times within the first year...

Well here we go into the adult territory. I don't think a kid needs this amount of power or it is good for them.

That said, any phone below 5K seems like is a big frustration.

Maybe, but he has control through family link. So it comes down to value - would you rather spend R2.5k on something that will last a year, or R5k on something that will last 3 years...

I think for a kid it is fine! You can use GSM arena to compare the various device. But I think if it has 4GB of ram min. it will work fine.
14 isn't really a kid anymore

14 is almost into adult territory

Just bought this bad boy 😎
Got the non Iron Man version with 12GB 512GB at a non inflated RAM scarcity price. Excitedly waiting it's delivery Wednesday 😁

It gets 4 years Android OS updates and 6 years security updates.

Giving my much loved Redmi Note 13 4G to my sister. She's gonna be very happy 😁

My Poco F5 turns 3 this month. Would be nice to replace the battery, it still lasts a full day with average use but I used to get two days out of it.

Getting proper ORIGINAL replacement batteries here in SA is just about impossible. Found a company in England that stocks OEM batteries..........they refuse to ship to South Africa. Emailed them and they just say that they cannot/won't ship batteries to SA.

****em.

Ive never gotten more than a day on my X7. Could be one of the apps maybe. I also only charge to 80% unless I know I will be out for the day. I dont have any complaints though. Even if I could get two day ill charge every night.

Yeah ive noticed teams is a big battery hog on mine. I need to stop using that on my phone but its convenient for when I'm not by the laptop.

If you use the alarm you can switch on charging control. It then charges to 80% and 30 min before the alarm set time it tops up to 100% then it doesn't spend much time at 100% and if you get up early its still at 80% +

Wait, what ? I don't think mine has this function... Will go check. Maybe it is only on the F series. Intelligent Charging?
