Bad news about Netflix in South Africa

I wonder if car manufacturers pay fair share for having their cars travel on the road?
Also, are we not paying for this data already?
I wonder if there’ll be fair share for back up and cloud providers like Dropbox and one drive- I mean why stop at Netflix and WhatsApp.

Because of diminishing returns. Netflix generates a lot of traffic. The few people who use Drop Box in SA use relatively little traffic.
To force them to do things will cost more than its worth. I mean sure, they could in theory go after every website in the world which is accessible from SA and force everyone to pay. If you host a website, you pay, if you pay for access, at least. But that's not going to work.

Imagine someone from Kazakhstan accessing MyBroadBand a few times and then those authorities requesting that MyBB pay say $1 in fees to pay for improved internet in that country.

"This service is not available in your region". Makes sense why bigger services arent all that keen to make their products and services available in our country.

It's a worldwide thing. Governments around the world are looking for revenue. They're seeing - someone's making money so they need to pay.

The not available in SA is because of licensing issues and also censorship. SA has some very strict Calvinist censorship. In the strictest sense, half of the anime shown on Crunchyroll sexualises imaginary cartoon minors, and in SA that's a criminal offense. Most CR viewers are sex offenders therefore if the laws were really applied. That's how retarded things are. Some big platforms don't want to deal with that and other FPB BS and other kinds of rent seeking.

In the States there used to be a loophole where small incoming items did not get taxed. They closed that. There were also cheaper shipping loopholes. That was fine when volumes were low but it ended up being a tax subsidy for foreign businesses the way AirBnB did not pay tax and so was able to be cheaper than a hotel and was able to take their business, and so less tax went into the fiscus.

Another useless organisation trying to justify its existence.

True. But this is woke Netflix vs commie ICASA.

Blackrock tards vs our SACP types here.

It's not like either is a hero here.

That pro Homo-neo-Sovieticus propaganda can't come for free.

(Note that Homo here is from Homo sapiens).

Some strange comments in this thread.

Whatever is supposedly going on "worldwide" , any government trying to tax external service providers for any kind of locally sought after access via the internet is utterly BS and should just be ignored.
