Man dies after jumping into tiger enclosure at Yorkshire zoo

Police say man was pronounced dead at the scene after being attacked by tiger
A man has died after being attacked by a tiger after jumping into its enclosure at a zoo in Yorkshire, police have said.

Emergency services were contacted shortly after 1.30pm on Saturday when the man entered the enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, near Doncaster, and was set upon by the tiger.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, South Yorkshire police said, adding his family had been informed.

Videos circulating online appear to show a man being pawed at and grappled by a tiger in an enclosure.

A police spokesperson said the tiger attacked the man and inflicted “serious injury”.

“Emergency services attended and sadly, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene,” they added.

Saw it this morning in my recommendations. Read the guy was a bit mentally retarded and he got seperated from his carer. Don't know if true.

It's similar to a mentally challenged teenager in Brazil I think who jumped into a lion enclosure at a zoo not too long ago. Lion immediately attacked and mauled him to death.

Edit: this one..

Saw some peeps on twitter discussing it, they likened him to a child, assume he had a minder who took him to the zoo...quite tragic.

A bit late for this suggestion in today's social media world. BBC:
Police said the man's family were being supported by officers. "Our thoughts are with them at this distressing time," the force said in a statement.

It added: "We are aware of videos circulating online and we would encourage people not to share this footage."

They say deaf too. Don't know where people get all this info

Surely by now zoos should have made it impossible to gain access to big cat enclosures by park visitors with all the tragedies that have happened over the years?
