6-year-old in custody after Virginia teacher injured in elementary classroom shooting

Has this case not gone to trial yet?

You can't charge a 6 yr old and put him on trial, nothing happens to the kid.

The mother of the six-year-old boy was convicted of criminal possession of a weapon, making false statements, and child neglect in relation to the shooting and was sentenced to 3+3⁄4 years in prison.

A jury awarded Zwerner $10 million following a civil trial against Ebony Parker, an assistant principal at the school, which concluded in November 2025.

The $10bar is apparently being paid by the schools insurer, lawsuits in the US are pretty crazy, R165 million payout.

They tried to find the assistant principal criminally negligent recently but the case was eventually dismissed, weirdly enough after going to trial.

The other side of it.

Sounds like the 6 yr old was a very likeable lad ....

The shooting occurred on the first day after the student had returned from a suspension for slamming Zwerner’s phone two days earlier.

Zwerner testified she first heard about the gun prior to class recess from a reading specialist who had been tipped off by students. The shooting occurred a few hours later. Despite her injuries, Zwerner was able to hustle her students out of the classroom. She eventually passed out in the school office.

This why she also won $10m in a court, ironically.
