Which are the best suburbs in Cape Town to live in today (working in CBD)?

Pinelands is the closest you can get that is the most like the North without being in it I reckon.
I love living in Pinelands, would recommend it but I mostly work remotely. Only go into the office in Rondebosch every now and then. It can be painful getting out of Pinelands in heavy traffic.

Outside of rush hour, you have good access to freeways from here and there are decent shops that you can get to without traffic issues.

So far you have posted twice on this thread that I can see, and both posts are just bullshit.

Is this your thing?
Shempies, did I touch you on your suicidal motorbiking studio. You are the one suggesting to risk life and limb with a motorbike in CPT traffic.

My friend was the same as you, pronouncing how great commuting with a motorbike is, ignoring the dangers of the motorbike, and he got split in half from the ass up by an idiot car driver in N1 CPT traffic.

Suggesting a motorbike as a solution without warning about the danger is completely idiotic with no regard for safety. Sop for you!

I agree - commuting on a motorbike in CT takes a special kind of rider, and someone with a lot of experience. Even then, it's not 'if' you get taken out, it's 'when'. CT roads can only be beaten by living where you'll to some degree travel against the flow of traffic, and adjusting your work-hours to be in less congested gaps.
Otherwise, the reality is this: you will not sell your Joburg property and be able to buy something similar in CT for the same money. Blame yourselves in Jhb/etc for letting things get so out of hand, and standing by and watching your property prices erode without moving on. This didnt happen overnight. The last time one could have bought here was during covid. The landscape has changed now.

Not trying to sell the motorcycle commuting thing, in the end it does not matter to me how others commute, but there are myths being posted here which need to be addressed.

There is a local Telegram group for safety where accidents and so forth are posted to enable people to be more informed.
Of the motorcycle incidents, the majority by far are Sixty60/deliver riders, partly because there are many of them, but mostly because many of them ride like idiots.
The commuter related incidents are way less than some here would like to read, if they were capable of reading to begin with.

Personally I have commuted on motorcycles in Cape Town since 2009, until 2016 I did not use a car at all, no incidents.
Post 2016 I commute less, but when I do, I use a motorcycle, again no incidents.
The same goes for most of my friends, the fwe who had incidents over the years were minor.

But this is going to go to far off topic now, I do not even know if the OP is into motorcycles at all.

@Foxhound5366 good luck with your move, contrary to what the village idiot in the thread wants people to believe, living in Cape Town is great.

Yeah guys, I'm not a motorbike rider and not about to become one just to make a Cape Town move feasible. I appreciate it's a good option for some people, but I also think I'm more likely to go for some of the other area suggestions here ... I really appreciate all the practical advice!

If you as a Cape Town local have some other secrets when it comes to commuting to and from the CBD, please do share! I'd love to hear it.

17 years on a bike in cpt so far. Touch wood, no crashes yet.

Seen a few guys go down in my time though. 1 particular spot on the M3 a polo took out a bike at the front of the pack and 7 bikes went down. I was in position 8 and saw that coming a mile away.

But yeah, got to agree its less safe but the time saving is great.

Worked in the Waterfront vicinity for 6 years. I refused to leave home in the Southern Suburbs before 9 just to avoid traffic. I'd leave home around 9:15 and it would take me between 25 - 35 minutes. I'd then leave a bit later in the evenings (5:30). That would take about the same amount of time to get home as in the mornings.

You asked about leaving early before traffic in both directions, so I assume your work hours are somewhat flexible in that regard?

If so, there is your answer, regardless of where you choose to live.

Do you only need to go to office and home, or do you go out during the day for client visits, since that can also help plan things better?

Either way, the other bits I know is that the traffic from Blouberg/Table View side is getting worse as the Parklands/Sunningdale areas get more developed, which is happening at staggering pace.
One faulty traffic light, broken down car or accident and all planning goes out the window.

Souther suburbs side, below the M3, there are quite a few schools which can make that challenging at times, since soccer moms become brain dead when they need to drop off or fetch their little angels.

Don't overthink it too much, you will figure it out when you are here.

My eyes are watering after looking at rental prices. R15 000/month for a studio apartment in Paarden Eiland seems quite common, which made the R22 000/month for a two-bedroom in Milnerton seem positively a steal.

I know I know, it's Cape Town.

These are relatively accurate estimates for studios and it's also why I suggested Milnerton, since you have the MyCiti Bus option if you need to do peak traffic hours for any reason and you can also do the earlier hours to avoid peak traffic if you need to drive yourself.. Milnerton offers the best of cost for what you get, public transport and ease of access to Marine drive to get to the CBD when using earlier hours to avoid peak traffic..

Lol, I had to go double check the map of Cape Town.
