SA to ban cash sales of scrap metal to fight vandalism

Remember... this is your logic not mine. I think the idea that just because you can't see something in history means it can't work is absolutely stupid.
There is a first time for everything.

Except being willfully ignorant and free, simultaneously.

It certainly doesn't PROVE it can't work.
Do you think there might be a first time for being willfully ignorant and free, simultaneously?

Can I prove you can't?

Using a priori....?

Yes

May I suggest you visit the No oxymorons left behind thread to get an idea of the things there will never be a first time for.

So you're saying that you didn't prove it in that original post?

That just because something hasn't shown up in history before does not automatically prove it's non viable?

Or is libertarianism non-viable?

Pick one. It's that simple.

There has never been a coercive monopoly that was not sustained through the help of the State.

There is proof in the form of history - going back to the beginning of the mass middle-class era - and also an anti-market biased AI engine(see earlier link to capexit2 thread).

That is after considering a priori the argument asserting, or inferring, that you need a market nanny-State, otherwise the sky will fall. The assertion that markets when left to voluntary-based membership society will collapse under the weight of bad economic actors due to for example greed, just doesn't hold up to scrutiny weather a priori, OR a posteriori.

Plenty of Technocratic Marxist university professors, the world over, who will stick their fingers in the ears and tell you otherwise.

They are the same academics that rely on a State salary, and who go apoplectic whenever someone threatens to secede.... thereby leaving those Marxist apologists to the full, undiluted consequences of their own ideas.

Uhmm no this is to try prevent cable theft.
It's got nothing to do with a war on cash, it just makes it harder for someone to get paid with all that illegal copper
and the informal waste collector collecting plastic bottles?

And the award for mega thread derailment, the floating trophy, for 2026 goes to @lexity
Congratulations, for fukking up a thread I had some interest in /s

He's the perennial winner of that award.

Nobody can even come close to his skillset in this regard.

As to the topic though, I honestly don't see this making as much of a dent in the problem as we'd hope. The legit scrap yards will implement checks and balances (as you've experienced), but the backyard ones won't and very likely will just take more business and then find a way to wash it through a few entities before it ends up at a legit scrapyard as "legit" anyway.

It's ok, all those Russian DCs are down....
Ja, I saw with the same narratives used in the UK thread, the Ukie thread and the German thread.

Meanwhile I'm wondering where our bad bots went. How do we blame the Russkies for this that disappeared overnight?

Four days ago, bots trying to do shietty stuff:

It makes it harder but then they can consolidate and get paid via EFT to a money mule account.

Maybe things like copper and we already do this for rough diamonds, should be sold only if you are vetted. If you are vetted, being paid in cash or via EFT shouldn't matter. You're not allowed to deal with or even possess rough diamonds. You should only be able to sell copper if you're vetted.

Vetting here is the weak point. And I get you, what about the guy who is renovating his house and has lots of old copper pipes or wires... but that sort of thing is rare.

No, this is to compel registered buyers from giving payouts in cash, not the thousands of illegal buyers who are the actual problem.
