Provincial department spends R96 million on travel while schools struggle to get money

The Gauteng Department of Education spent R96 million on travel and related costs while schools in the province struggle to get enough money to survive.

I am curious as to how much they spend on student transport.
My son was in a school close to the NW province border, the busses collect children from areas up to 50km away and then take them home every school day. It seems like an extreme waste of fuel and time to me. some of those kids have to sit on a bus for over 90 minutes twice a day 5 days a week while a provincial department is shuttling around for what? they can zoom these meetings and use the hotel and transport money to build a school closer to home for some of these kids.
