Warning to anyone checking in bags at OR Tambo, King Shaka and Cape Town International

Can confirm, i had a flight out of JHB in July and the the buggers broke the lock on my bag. I had nothing valuable in my bag, so nothing was taken. But rather wrap you bag if you got anything you worried about.

I see some people use these luggage protectors, its not fool proof, but could be a deterrent. Almost the same price as wrapping your bag twice at the airport.

Turds broke into my suitcase during a layover in JNB. Unfortunately for them my other locked suitcase was inside of it, wedged in and upside down, so they weren't able to take anything other than the lock.

But rather wrap you bag if you got anything you worried about.
True - they'll never be able to penetrate a bag wrapped in clingfilm.

Mmmm, maybe we need a poll.

Of those that had experienced bag theft/broken into, did you:

  • Checked in your luggage 2 hours prior to your departure
  • Checked in your luggage less than a two hours but more than a hour to your departure
  • Checked in while they closed the plane door (<40min)
Never had issue myself with luggage, but I'm typically the bloke that checks in between 60-40min before departure.

Like the bag cover i suggested, its more a deterrent rather then a fool proof solution.

But i have never heard of anybody who wrapped their bag end up receiving their bag on the other side with the wrapping removed or cut.

arent there a million cameras and police that supposed to stop this from happening?
or is it a free for all as soon as your bags leave your sight

Don't be racist now! They tried this racist plan at SAPO and that was quickly quashed and now look at how successful SAPO is.

Seriously though, these people need to be identified and have every fscking thieving digit broken to make them learn a lesson.

I haven't had any issues with baggage theft in a few years, the last was on a flight to Cape Town where my bag was locked and wrapped. They stole some cologne and a speaker but had kindly put the baggage wrap in my bag before putting it on the carousel. So at least I had spare baggage wrap to use for next time...

Lol they put the bag wrap inside my parents bag after stealing.

The more fancy the bag ex Polo , Celine, Gucci more likely to get broken into?

they do need to be identified, same as the Turdlings that follow you home from a flight just to rob you at home,
or the turdlings friends who throw bricks from the bridges along the freeway to cause you to crash

or the other other friends, who wait for you to not triple check your door locks, jam your remote and then help themselves.
