The Cape Independence Advocacy Group appreciates that supporters of many different political parties recognise the significant benefits that Cape Independence would bring the people of the Western Cape, and that who to vote for is a deeply personal choice.

As an organisation, the CIAG would particularly like to see the Freedom Front Plus and the Cape Independence Party performing strongly in these elections, and therefore our advice to those seeking it would be to vote for one of these two parties.

Our thinking is this:

Freedom Front Plus: The Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) was formed to promote and pursue self-determination, the legal basis for Cape Independence. Initially this was on behalf of Afrikaners, but the party has subsequently broadened its pursuit of self-determination to all communities who wish to exercise it, with a particular focus on minority communities which includes the people of the Western Cape. The FF Plus are currently represented in 15 out of 30 Western Cape municipalities, 8 out of 9 provincial legislatures, and the National Assembly. The CIAG has a formal cooperation agreement with the FF Plus.

A copy of the FF Plus's manifesto can be downloaded here

Cape Independence Party: The Cape Independence Party (CIP) was formed to promote Cape Independence. They currently have two councillors in the Cape Town Metro. The CIAG has signed a memorandum of understanding with the CIP and cooperates with them to promote Cape Independence from time to time.

A copy of the CIP's manifesto can be downloaded here

Democratic Alliance: We recognise and respect that the majority of Cape Independence supporters historically vote for the Democratic Alliance (DA). We greatly appreciate the vast difference in the standards of government the DA has delivered in the Western Cape compared to the rest of South Africa. As an organisation, however, we cannot currently endorse the DA because they are refusing to call a referendum on Cape Independence even though they are constitutionally empowered to do so. This is despite polling consistently showing that a clear majority of their own voters support such a referendum being held. We continue to lobby the DA to take a more assertive approach to insulating the Western Cape from destructive national government.

Has the CIP remembered to take part in this election?

Nothing will get in their way again like that did before, guaranteed. Even the bears are welcoming them

So who would you like to "run" the Western Cape?

The CIP couldn't even find their way out of bed to bother contesting the last election.

If people are worried about the ANC not doing any work while in government, the CIP wouldn't be a wise horse to back. It would be like divorcing an alcoholic to marry a tik head.

That's why the DA keeps winning - they are perceived to be the lesser of all the evils. Even their own propaganda has historically portrayed them as that. The whole "vote for us because we're not the ANC" thing.

So I assume from all that ☝️☝️☝️ your personal answer would be the DA...

Ok then...🤷‍♂️

Why don't they mention OHM?

Probably, yes. And I don't even like them.

They're all clowns, but at least the DA has a track record of governing reasonably well.

Fair logic. Then again, supporting a more minority party holds much promise for entertaining resistance to the lazy and abusive side of the DA, and it appears quite a lot of WC-ians are thinking that way of late.

So then, who holds most promise and possible influence for positive change? Can only be the FF+

A party that self describes in terms of minority identity politics is never going to gain much support. So probably worth supporting in local elections if you like what they stand for and their local representative is competent, but they can't really be expected to win any more than a few wards around the place.

I don't like DA members on mybb at all as most of them are racist POS but DA has decent track record of governing so I would vote for DA if in WC or anywhere really.

That's exactly it. I always voted for them when I lived in SA for that reason. The governance bit, not the racist POS members. 😂

Not fair. I can assure you that some of these leaders have friends from Majority.

They do have a bit of an uphill PR battle, particularly as they evolved from a party established because they thought the NP were a bunch of liberal commies.

But they seem to be happy with that label anyway, judging from their website, so I doubt whether they have any national ambitions.

Still, probably a better bet than the CIP, who battle to remember what day of the week it is.

They've been moving away from Afrikaaner-only support for some time. If they continue to support minorities specifically, then they'll continue to grow with such support and many minorities can end up creating a majority.

What about ideology, their stance on certain things and future decisions ?
