Is it possible to give my wife power of attorney / signing power to a Captiec account so that they can install the app on their phone, transact on the account and perform general banking duties without my presence (e.g. if I'm travelling)?

Is it straight forward?

No idea.. Usually wives have their own account & app on their own phone if my family and friends circle is something to go by.

Are you asking this due to Capitec only allowing the app to be authorised on one device?
It is fkn annoying and even more so considering all the other banks allow multiple devices to be have their apps authenticated on by one user account.

It is annoying, but heck, they're saving me R450 a month at least so I'm sticking with them as my primary to have my salary paid into for now. I might just have the app transferred to my wife's phone and be done with it.

Why do you need their authorisation to do that, the only limit as far as I can see is that the banking profile can only be active on one device but which device that is is up to you.

This sounds overcomplicated.

Transfer the funds to her and let her pay whatever needs paying. Don't open a can of worms.

So how do I transfer all the debit orders in my name? Must I now declare the transfer as salary?

What do you mean?

Debit orders go off on their own if there is money in the account.
If there are other accounts, etc., that need payment, just transfer the money over to her.

Why must you make this so complicated? Surely your wife can open up a Capitec account for herself? Set up an automatic payment to her account every month, it will literally take minutes to reflect on her side and that way she can technically still play baas with your money. You can determine how much you want to transfer to her and how much you need to keep in your account for your debits.

Because I'm not making it complicated, you're the one advocating to open a new account. That's complicated. I want an account we can both use. Now that's uncomplicated.

Nedbank allows it.

So now she must reconcile two accounts because the debit orders sit in one and she spends from the other? No, that's unnecessarily complicated.

As a provisional tax payer, it's enough work reconciling one account.

So you're saying it's complicated to open an account for her at Capitec, yet you mention Nedbank as an option in the same breath, right?

I don't understand the problem you are creating for yourself.
Suppose the debits go off your account. And you have another R10k worth of accounts to pay by EFT, etc. Just transfer her the R10k.

Nedbank is an existing account. My bond and my car are handled through them. The Capitec account was opened because Nedbank charge me R1000 to receive my salary. That's a bank charge for a single transaction... and that changed silently without letting me know in June this year. Before June I was paying R350 for the same transaction.

Captiec charge me R450 so that's over R500 a month saved in bank charges in that single transaction, so yes, I have a Nedbank and a Captiec account and don't want another account.

I get it, you don't have to reconcile your bank account every month to accurately calculate what's owing to SARS. Fine. Some do.
