Russo-Ukrainian War - 2022 Edition - Part 11

Why would Russian bots use Yandex? This argument is plain stupid when the bot network would want to appear anything but Russian.

We saw something similar last year when X was attacked via Ukrainian hosts. Musk said the origins were from Ukrainian IPs. Some UK media group published this as Musk saying Ukrainian attackers were involved. Note the difference? Not the same thing. Then some UK Proffie jumped on the bandwagon, not having the facts, however stating the obvious: That spoofed IPs, VPNS or other online resources remote from the attackers are typically used. Obviously posting excludes spoofed IPs.

Amazon. Google, MSN and other western resources are constantly abused by bad actors from all over, also Russia. They are notoriously bad at stopping these actors. When they finally take them down, the bots move onto the next provider, rinse and repeat until it's back to one of the previous.

My 5c on something I know about and thought was common knowledge, but apparently it's not. But then again I've been up against this stuff before, one group the same guys that attacked SpamHaus from Russia. That did not mean they were Russian actors, merley that the bad actors were using Russian resources (they turned out to be Austrian).

Clearly we are hearing a lot from Twitterati experts, not so much real knowledgeable folks.
