DStv Movies & Series for R500 or Netflix for R229

This excludes internet connectivity. Funny how Dstv is getting cheaper but internet is getting more expensive.

I think you have the same misunderstanding I had of this premise. Some accountant on here once told me how the internet cost factors into the equation differently. Something to do with it being used for more than just watching TV basically, and thus rendering it a moot point.

This is them hoping to either get one over the older folks who don't care for other streamers, or to make Premium look like better value for money.

I keep being told that but then I see people on here saying how their line speed can now support streaming or the gaming and downloads no longer interfere with streaming etc.

Fact of the matter is you don't need a super connection or unlimited usage for browsing or email. If it wasn't for streaming most people can have cheaper connections. It's only a moot point for the Dstv haters because they can't admit their entertainment costs a proportion of their internet costs.

DStv series / movies hasn't improved enough to be up there again, not yet anyway. At the same time... last I heard Netflix has become quite boring, maybe abusive of their subscribers, not very liked at the moment.

Sadly DSTV is a dinosaur that's slowly dying. If it wasn't for South Africans love of Rugby, DSTV would have been in a worse state.

With the old guard I agreed, but things have changed yet again and this time there's some real shifts. Now highly doubt it.

Netflix and Disney Plus are mostly 'woke' nonsense plus you need to figure in the cost of a decent fibre or 5G plan for at least R300 per month. For some people, Movies and Series on a trusty ol' satellite dish makes more sense.

Given what is available, DSTV is not a serious option for anyone, unless they are so obsessed with sports that they have no other choice. Bottom line is that DSTV has nothing to offer that others do not offer better and cheaper.

If you are getting your internet just for TV, then you are doing it wrong. People have internet for a lot more, the fact that they can also stream is irrelevant to the price of having internet. I have a very good high-speed internet that I never use for watching anything anyway, but it did make getting Amazon video for the wife a no-brainer etc.

It's very individual, though you're maybe describing a middle class norm of sorts.

But take me for example - yes I check email daily but don't have to, and I could be more bothered in interest websites but not really, most of my internet use (and others in the house) is a bit of social media-like forums and... downloading / streaming. 🤷‍♂️
