Easiest way to convert Contract to Prepaid

Remember, usage is billed in arrears, so it is normal to have a debit order early in the next month after the contract has been cancelled.

^This, subscription in advance and calls in arrears.
I can honestly say I dont miss my days in the cellular industry at all.

IIRC the airtime is loaded before its billed
Yeah but that should be on the very next invoice cycle in the first week of the month.

In this case no airtime was loaded but still billed for it.

Either way I've started following up with then it just amusing irritates me that I still need to deal with them even after leaving.

Thread necro, just actioned a contract cancellation and conversion to prepaid this afternoon, they say it will be effective 1 January in 2 days time. Flip I hope they don't stuff it up. The lady at 0821958 tried to offer me some upgrade options but there's no way they can compare with the Telkom Mobile offerings.

I also cancelled 1 line with them this weekend. They did offer me a good deal where i would pay 60% less on the same package, however i said no because I keep getting vodacom sms's of an incident that was resolved months ago which they can't seem to stop. Also I get sms's and phone calls for the previous owner of this number who owes various companies money. It does not matter how many times i have to told them am not that person, they still keep contacting me. eish

We can no longer do it at store/dealer level. They took that functionality away from us. You have to call 0821958. Only way.
Apologies for necro. I have had the same Vodacom contract on my phone since 2017, the contract ended in 2019 and I have just ignored it, I keep getting billed month to month as if I did have a contract. I want to now go pre-paid. Can I no longer change in store, I was planning on going to the local Vodacom store this Saturday morning 9am?

No, the store wont be able to assist. You need to call 0821958

Thank you, I have downgraded to the Flexi zero package that includes 1 GB WhatsApp data every month for R26 per month :thumbsup:

I knew it was just too good to be true to trust these Vodacom mother****ers to actually get it right.

31st (not the 1st I might note) my airtime disappears and my package changes to prepaid...bizarrely the data bundle remains in tact.

No drama. 1st comes along and I initiate the porting to FNB connect and it's an utterly magical experience to be honest because it just works. No bull****, no drama no hassle.

2nd of February...Vodacom debit orders me for a contract that has ended for a number that no longer exists.
extreme thread necro!

just done this myself.
Contract done in december, so tried to do this without going into a store.
the email statement actually includes a customer care email, that no longer exists.
Eventually I can get the 5th guy on the cancellations to transfer to a prepaid, will happen 28th of feb. the previous guys just cancel the call eventually.

They have however finally convinced me to exit this abusive relationship. ta ta

Well, end of the month, my data contract ends, when the last payment goes off, I will go in, and have them change it to pre-paid, and then leave it be, bye bye ... , Vodacom, bye bye ...

So after 20 years of contract I have moved to prepaid 6 months ago.

here's my experience so far:
I was on a month to month contract after the 24 month rollover, was probably spending R450 per month.
Everything that i had accumulated was available for that month and then disappeared to their bottomline - you bring nothing over.
They will try upsell you...

Since I'm often near to wifi and I hardly use voice anyway these days with whatsapp calling, prepaid was a no brainer. I'm ad-hoc buying 7.5Gb for R99 and R20 airtime. Even though the data doesn't "expire" anymore, they're appealing that ruling or whatever, so it defintiely does.

I now have to manage my account from the app. it is painful. when it runs out, it just runs out. No notification, and you have to work out why the interwebs on your phone is gone. Trying to buy more data when you are out of data (or wifi) just takes forever. You can either buy from a credit card or the "wallet". the banking often hangs. I have looked into the 'wallet', but it appears to be some attempt to get users to have vodacom as their bank. I don;t need another bank account thank you, but it might be a necessary evil.

What really hacks me off, and got me to write this, is voice. I'd like to be able to use my phone to phone people. yet the voice balance disappears. I am convinced of this, and can track my call records. I'm only buying R20 at a time, normally to go an make one call to an office/landline. and then a week later, it's back to R0. therefore nervous to load R200 and see what happens. As we stand now, I loaded R20 on 26 august, and made 3 outgoing calls. 1m50s, 0m13s,, 0m3s..

tl:dr
I'm saving money on prepaid, but it's a hack to manage. especially when it runs out.

Use a month to month contract, afrihost mobile for example, think it includes voice. There are also other mvno, just traditional mobile networks directly isn't great, and it's probably on purpose. Those month to month contracts auto buy data etc.

For checking when your mobile data expires, android has it built in to set monthly data cycles, saying how much data to warn at and limit, use that so you don't go over, and you can also check what you actually use.

Good point - actually added an airmobile contract (advice from here) to my dormant afrihost profile for a sim for my teenage daughter recently. -there was nothing even close on vodacrap.
Experience has been really good, Buuuuuut it does just randomly stop. she says "no airtime"..but then the app says there is and it just comes back magically. she hasn;t klapped her data yet in a single month. Air2 - R49 for 2gb data and R20 airtime.

the big boys need to catch a wake up, but I figure they're doing the Multichoice thing of bleeding existing customers (they do own he actual backbones too so have a bit more power of mvno)

@shebeen We often just read these forums and wonder why consumers in general fail to apply a simple principal by actively deep dive ALL Terms and Conditions before handing over your hard earned money.

We see and understand your problem, accordingly we suggest you take a look at the Vodacom PowerFlex prepaid product. This has data carryover and voice minutes.

You really wonder why, they don't get read?

Every one does not have a lawyer in their back pocket, to read a 200 page document, that you blokes, change whenever a whim tickles your fancy, and there is nothing we can do about it any how. Or does your changing your Terms and Conditions, entitle us to a penalty free cancelation if the changes are not acceptable to us?

I'd like to know for a brother

Cool. I looked at it, never saw it as an option before. Maybe my error, but you're the guys trying to sell stuff that makes sense.

Starts at 5Gb and 300mins for R199pm.

I would have about 295 minutes of that carrying over every month.

So it just makes more financial sense for me to buy 7gb for R100 and 20 minutes of airtime.

But since it is difficult to manage a monthly top up (guess what my airtime just disappeared again since my last post)…I would go this route just for convenience sake.

edit:I was following this wrong
data = data
voice = voice
airtime = data/voice

once your data gets depeleted, your airtime balance will be used.
the minimum amount of voice that can be purchased is 100min (R50).
this requires management! - i guess the trick is to set your phone data limits so that it warns you to top up before you deplete it all
