F1 2026

With the billions in guarantees required, surely for SA, the better thing if we use that money elsewhere.

That private seems a much better choice, less government money needed. But my spidey sense is government will kill that bid, and back the kyalami bid in an effort to get their piece of the pie - Gayton wants his cut. Just like with that ticketrpros debacle

I’d bet probably 80% of races are financially supported by major contributions from local or national govt of their countries far in excess of just logistics around the race week itself.

This is what started killing off the traditional European races in favour of the ME races, lack of support from European governments (local and national) while governments in the ME are willing and ready to throw oil dollars at them. This was especially true in Germany. As with most circuits, the Nurburgring and Hockenheim were running at loses and neither the German government nor the state governments were willing to subsidise them.

This I reckon now becomes a straight shootout between Camara (a Ferrari Junior) and Ollie Bearman (also part of the Ferrari program with racing experience for the Prancing Horse) for the seat that will eventually be vacated by Sir Lewis. That could still potentially a few years away but one of them will likely be primed by then to take over.

Unless Charles gets gatvol first and does a runner...

Bearman is a better driver than Camara. It will be Bearman that replaces Hamilton at Ferrari (eventually)

Not sure I agree. Camara has been phenomenal in F2 the past couple of years and I think he could handle the pressure of F1. Burman is good but he has not really stood out in his F1 career so far.
It would be better if we saw them race each other in an F1 car, rather than a mutually exclusive contract, but olly has had his shot I am happy to give Camera a chance.

It is not like he is driving a car capable of scoring big points, let alone competing for podiums and wins.

Saying that, he scored points on his F1 debut, holding off Lewis Hamilton and Lando Norris for 7th.

When he stood in for KMag at Haas, he outqualified Hulkenberg and held him off for 10th, again scoring points in his first race for Haas. Throughout the season, KMag only finished ahead of Hulkenberg twice. Bearman beat him on his debut.

In his first full season for Haas, he beat Ocon and he is beating him again this season. He is basically carrying Haas this year, as his points tally alone keeps them ahead of Audi.

Bearman is legit and there is some genuine potential there.

Yes, the teams have a very hard choice to make when juggling drivers. It is a pity they can't have them both. But I am sure that past and present performance will play a large part in the decicion.

Bearman has performed way above expectations since joining F1
And that is actually a problem for Ferrari. He will probably be on the list for any of the big teams if they need a driver, so if the madam stay too long then Ferrari might loose Bearman.

Get rid of Leclerc. Hamilton can sunset and pass on experience/advice to Bearman. Then pick a replacement for Lewis.

Only being able to pass and win in the fastest car is no experience to be passing on. Ferrari does not have the fastest car, so Leclerc will be much better in helping new drivers.
