would anyone want to use this knowing that mechanical things are not 100% reliable - ie when a car that is flying malfunctions it is not as trivial as a rear view mirror falling off or a tyre deflating while the car is parked ..... the odds are that if it malfunctions mid flight you lose the ability to stop breathing after the resultant crash

You must be fun at parties/dinners.

You just keep worrying about eSIM phone costs...leave this stuff to the grownups.

I mean, people said the exact same things in the old days about normal cars and planes etc. "No one is ever going to get in a horseless motorwagon or plane because it's not safe".

This tesla is just a prototype but actual flying cars will eventually be a normal thing in the future. The technology and testing etc have to start somewhere with someone.

Yeah man, the more I think about it, this is just a very cool party trick that might actually help avoid a head-on collision or if you drive off the side of a hill ... it's basically just a filled air balloon, so nothing like sustainable flight. Like a commenter on the video I shared above said, it's not flying ... it's falling with style.

But is it undeniably cool and a showpiece for what is possible when you don't only think outside the box but blow the box up? Absolutely.

I doubt anyone is thinking this is how we get to flying Jetsons bubble cars. It's running on compressed air by the sounds of it. Short jumps between replacing the air sure, but sustained flight using compressed air? I can't see that feasibly happening.

This thing is incredible to watch though. A jumping car. What a wild idea.
