Elon Musk just unveiled a Tesla Roadster that flies

The jumping car is not road legal and invite only. The thruster assisted one is available for purchase.

You must be fun at parties/dinners.

just like some people are utter idiots all their life (you need to look in a mirror to see who i mean)

people still die in cars - brand new cars can have brakes failing and other malfunctioning bits etc - and knowing that if you really are excited to be amongst the first to want to use prototypes of cars that fly then i have to question the amount of brain power you have

and most cars once they hit 4 years old are hitting their replacement period due to planned obsolescence which is a real thing - most of these things are engineered to die after a certain amount of time to force you to buy something new ..... its a known concept - so are you going to be happy when you or family members are falling out of the sky - similar risks exist for driverless vehicles too - the first few people who rush out to purchase these things generally have more guts than brains IMHO

Yeah man, the more I think about it, this is just a very cool party trick that might actually help avoid a head-on collision or if you drive off the side of a hill ... it's basically just a filled air balloon, so nothing like sustainable flight. Like a commenter on the video I shared above said, it's not flying ... it's falling with style.

But is it undeniably cool and a showpiece for what is possible when you don't only think outside the box but blow the box up? Absolutely.
I’m thinking more in the lines of getting over some busy traffic circles and robots in the morning work run.

I see you found another topic to be wrong about, just so that you can froth and spit and shout.

Nice rambling Strawman.....

would anyone want to use this knowing that mechanical things are not 100% reliable - ie when a car that is flying malfunctions it is not as trivial as a rear view mirror falling off or a tyre deflating while the car is parked ..... the odds are that if it malfunctions mid flight you lose the ability to stop breathing after the resultant crash
I’m sure there are other forms of "air travel" that depend heavily on mechanical components functioning reliably?

Hope you are still riding a donkey/horse.

Imagine a 90 year old in a car like this. Accidentally pressing the wrong button in his own garage or in a tunnel.

Good times!
They’ll probably only make 10 of these rocket version cars. So some tech bros and drug dealers will have them.

Let's be honest here. This is never going to be a mass production car. Certainly not with the jet booster option. This is going to be a toy for the wealthy, or end up in a museum somewhere.

None of the potential buyers of this thing are going to be worried about the long-term maintenance problems.

You're likely concerned about a problem that doesn't exist.

I want to see F1 cars with this tech.
