We tested SA Post Office international delivery and were surprised

Wow, this is really a suprising result.
I would only trust them with my stuff if more than 99% of packages were actually delivered.

Order placed: 15 September
Order ready for collection:: 13 October
Reaction: wooohooo another on time delivery. Well done team!!!

Nice for them, still not using them, and am not going to ever use them again in my lifetime.
same tried to order a pair of glasses from overseas,

took 3 months, had to chase it around CPT
but did eventually get it, and was forced to use SAPO as Zenni does not allow shipment via DHL or Fedex or somebody reliable.

I just posted 2 postcards from a European country.

Will see if it reaches out address in a reasonable time. Or ever.

As regular international mail goes this is incredible going.

This is not a priority courier service and therefore costs next to nothing.
I got a Christmas card delivered this week, posted 18 August via Auspost. My bet is it was on a plane 20 August, nd arrived in SA 21 August, and the rest of the time it was at ORT awaiting pickup by SAPO, then a trip to a sorting center, then another week in sorting, then a week to get to Durmain, and there it was somewhere in the pile. Might only have been in a delivery bag for 2 weeks, because that is the junk mail delivery timing.

Yeah that’s entirely untracked though right? So just goes in a massive bag.

I haven't seen a post office in ??? Can't remember, but last time I saw them I had to scan to myself through their paper based system to locate my parcel.

Some shipments from years ago are still floating somewhere in space (or in sa post office thief house).

Once sent a parcel to someone in holland for some items they forgot when travelling back. Using a courier costs more as the items. So sent it via the Post Office, no need to say some items never made it to holland. (Some of it was medication which they received everything else is probably still in South Africa) Actually I was surprised the meds they received as normally customs is strict about that.

I saw a post office branded delivery van where the guy was delivering parcels. for real. couldn't believe it. thought I was in some kind of alternate reality.

If SAPO started using vans to deliver parcels to the home a decade ago when online shopping was taking off, people might still use them. Every SAPO parcel I've ever received required me to drive to the post office.
