Got both my ID card and passort this year. Pretty effortless and fast with online bookings and going to STD Bank. ID was ready in 2 weeks and Passport in 1

Yes, but only because I washed my ID book too many times and it stop being accepted. Think it was issued 27 years ago. The new card feels weird though, do you only photocopy the front for proof for opening accounts or do you have to do the back as well.

Went to Capitec a few days ago to apply at the machine. Took about 5 minutes

If you struggle to get an appointment to get the new ID, go to Capitec, open an account, apply for new ID, collect about two weeks later and close the Capitec account if you do not want to keep it.
