Movie Mini-Review Thread - Part IV

Practical Magic 2 (2026) 6/10

A whopping 28 year gap since the first film. Good to see the core cast & then some. Sandra Bullock (62) & Nicole Kidman (59) still rocking the roles. Nothing groundbreaking, story is on the drawn out side. This should appeal to the fans.

Buddy (2026) 6.5/10

Crazy outlandish supernatural black comedy slasher. I respect the innovation here, however the film takes a bit of a dip as it unfolds. I actually wanted a tad more from the title character. Don't let that deter anyone though. This is a smart & creepy watch. Excellent voice-work by Keegan-Michael Key.

The Captain aka Der Hauptmann (2017)

German language. A true story. This movie is absolutely beautiful in black and white. The story is gripping from start to finish; the ease which man falls into depravity is wonderfully shown here. 7.5/10

enjoyed this so much I had to go and research it afterwards, what a tale...

....

Animals (2026) - 5/10 ... Was Meh ... Besides the ending it felt like I've seen this before.

The plot is copied from another movie which Ben Affleck claims he never watched. Maybe the AI he used to write Animals was trained on the original.

Hope (2026) - 7/10. South Korean creature feature. Is it a horror, comedy or action flick? All in one I suppose. I had lots of fun with this. Creature effects are great.

The Sixth Sense (1999)

This was even better than the first time I watched it more than 20 years ago. It's probably the best movie M. Night Shyamalan has ever made, or ever will. Willis and Haley Joel Osment deliver outstanding performances. Heartbreaking. 9/10

One of the most 'didn't see that coming' twists in movie history.

Which is probably why I've never watched it again. But maybe I should.

Spider Man Bland New Day 6/10

Didn't see the point of this one. Was pretty boring. Story was meh and dumb. Punisher made no sense and contributed nothing useful. Zendaya's acting is questionable in this one. Ek dink hulle is almal moeg. Was one of the better movies out lately, but unnecessary addition to Spiderman. Also had some Batman vibes, but fell flat.

Is Spider-Man in Doomsday?

Is Spider-Man in Doomsday?

Yes. Advert for Doom.

Coup de torchon (1981)

French language. Racist language, misogyny, and paedophilia are a few things that drag this unfunny comedy down. 3/10

I thought that because I knew the twist, it would be spoiled. But it didn't.

A well-crafted movie. Awesome watch.

It will all make sense down the line .... The whole idea was for them to feature in future "Marvel" movies/TV-shows ... Focus

The Chase (1994) 6.5/10

Some 90's escapism. Fun action comedy, nothing is drawn out. Dead pan Sheen & foxy Kristy Swanson fits the bill.

Sacrifice (2025) 5/10

A misstep "action-adventure comedy-drama". Properly deep in it's themes & it comes across as messy. The setting was very intriguing at least.

Undertone (2025)

A great build-up of spookiness leads to ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. The story is very weak and unbelievable even on a paranormal level. 2/10

Insidious: Out of the Further

6/10
Good old school horror.
