Parents who let young kids use WhatsApp in South Africa should be held criminally liable

Again, a social media advocate, not a law expert, trying to be relevant.

Whatsapp really needs better parental controls. Its controls suck. You can not limit things like screen sharing or video calls for example.

Don’t know how it works on Android, but on iOS you can control the Contacts on the device which resolves 99% of the underlying problem.

Then again because we are on iOS there’s no need for the kids to have WhatsApp in the first place.

They don’t even have SIM cards as it stands.

She's an attorney. Probably more productive to comment on substance.
And what "attorneying" does she do? She speaks to parents and kids. Just because she has the qualifications doesn't make her relevant. The only thing relevant here is her looks. She should go do modelling, if that isn't an old photo.

We're going to have to build more prisons with all the things that you can be held criminally liable for these days. We should have a law that states that for every new law that parliament creates they have to repeal an old one.

Quite the prick you are. Have some decency, you’re making an ass of yourself.

Yeah, pretty sure South African law already allows parents of underage children to be held liable if they are negligent or have not exercised due diligence in the control of their offspring. I would also tentatively support holding parents criminally and civilly liable for the actions of their offspring, but it is unlikely that the law will extend that far. I must also agree that most parents have no idea who their kids really are or what they spend most of their lives doing but is that really the parent's fault or is it in reality the fault of the system that we have allowed, which doesn't give parents the time to be involved in their children's lives. I was lucky to grow up in a world when one parent was at home 24hours a day, very few have that luxury now.
