The 'Massive' Gauteng Weather and Storm Warning Thread! The Sequel

The funny thing is in the airport specific forecasts they've mentioned a 40% chance of hail for OR Tambo, which you don't see often at all. I assume due to the high temperatures if an isolated cell does pop up it's going to be relatively violent

Aviation forecasts have a different agenda, and not issued by the same people who do the TV weather forecasts. A low probability of a high consequence event is still worth mentioning, since a single storm cell needs to be avoided. This is unlike the situation on the ground (as mentioned above). The latest TAF for FAOR shows a very mixed outlook for this afternoon:
TEMPO 1712/1719 -TSGSRA FEW050CB
denoting a thunderstorm with precipitation of snow pellets/small hail and rain

And to think, its not even summer yet. Still only spring

It's also an El Nino year. Image previously posted in the Climate Change thread:

Totally off topic but still relevant. 9070XT chugging along at 61 under load in this heat case closed. Impressive.

There is an extremely small cell just scraping west of Bapsfontein and moving north, those in the east may get a light sprinkling

If it's already hitting 35 in spring I'm a bit scared of what real summer is going to like. Sure we'll have our rainy days but I remember 37-40deg in PTA many years ago.

Around 2015 it was around 35 in JHB, I left my car parked in an outside parking lot, it got so hot my steering wheel actually warped :(.

Those temperature records were set when we had drought during the 2015-2016 season. I remember driving through the Free State in Nov 2015 and seeing endless large dust devils all the way to the horizon with crops looking knackered. I far prefer a more rainy season to drought.

I think we could well see some of those records broken this season.
