3 children, 1 teacher killed in shooting at Bend, Oregon, elementary school, police say; suspect dead

How did this guy get hold of the shotgun? It should have been safely locked away. In so many of these cases there seems to have been limited safe keeping involved - if you want to own a gun, you should accept responsibility for where it ends up. In this case it seems that the idiot's mom should have the book thrown at her.
So now it's the mothers fault ? 😵‍💫 😵‍💫 😵‍💫 FYI, the shotgun was purchased by his mother as a birthday gift for him.

It sounds as if it's absolutely the mother's fault. Are 16 year olds even legally allowed to own shotguns?

Throw the book at her. Imagine being the parent of one of the dead kids and having to be cool with the situation because some irresponsible parent thought it's cool to gift their brat a gun. 🙈

OK, I'll bite further, so if your son rapes a teenage girl, then it would be your fault as well?

Remember we are dealing with the US, so it varies from State to State, no you cannot legally purchase a long gun or handgun in Oregon at the age of 16, however you are allowed to possess a long gun as a minor if you have permission from a parent or guardian, or for specific lawful activity such as hunting or target practice.

The rape comparison is crazy.

The whole point is that the US clearly has a mental gun culture. How is it in any way normal for parents to give their kids guns as birthday presents? It's a seriously odd thing to do.

The US has more guns than people, which sums it up. There are clearly too many nutters with easy access to guns, otherwise these incidents wouldn't happen with such endless regularity.

Why are you saying the comparison is crazy ? 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️

Ok what about the following then, could you perhaps pick one that's not "crazy" in your opinion, murderer, child molester, crypto scammer, alcoholic, drug dealer, prostitute.

No, it's actually very normal, it's a very common tradition amongst the hunting community to gift their children a rifle at a young age, also in the sporting community for junior competitions, or in the junior class, as I'm sure you are aware there's a gazillion different sporting disciplines.

Only in the US would that be considered normal. And in any case , if you gift a firearm to a minor, most parents would be responsible enough to ensure that it's only used and accessible under appropriate supervision.

Whatever the reason, my point hasn't changed - it's blatantly obviously too easy for numbskulls to access firearms in Yanksville. Every other time that there's a school shooting we have the same conversation.

OK I'll bite, so in your opinion, what preventative measures should be in place for these nutters and the easy access etc etc etc...

I've said it already in this thread. If you own a firearm, keep it safe. If you can't, don't own one. And don't give your dear 16 year old a gun to run around with whenever he feels like it.

What a strange comparison. Did mom gift him a penis on his 16th birthday ? And what are the stats of rape when penis is gifted like this ? Something similar to guns ?
No need to be sarcastic... 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️ 🤷‍♂️

So, are you just going to ignore this part of the discussion now ?

Yeah I mean that's still crazy. Obviously you couldn't blame the parents for some of those things, but most parents wouldn't do stuff like giving their kids an online gambling account or bottles of whiskey for their birthdays, or telling them that prostitution was great and an admirable lifestyle. If they did, they would be certainly be to blame for the results.

You are assuming again, of course it is done, GLOBALLY in a very responsible and respectful way that goes without saying.

Ahhhh yes @vigras rojara having his finger on the pulse of the global hunting community.

And I'll say it again - if you gift a weapon to your minor children, you are responsible for its safekeeping. If you can't do that, then stick to PlayStations.

Something this mother clearly didn't do.
