Fires break out at French schools as students protest nationwide

Seriously. Who amongst any sane person can disagree that whatever you reward/incentivize you get more of not less, and that today's society is a hand-out society?

I mean you yourself want a society with subsidies.

So you clearly simply deny that there are consequences to that.

Because then the countries with the best social security and unemployment benefits would have high unemployment, right? I mean you're rewarding people not to work, so fewer people will choose to work.

Except the real world doesn't bear (👀) that out.

Your theory assumes the majority of people are completely lazy and lack ambition. Fortunately that isn't the case.

The Scandinavian countries - which is no doubt where your sources are getting their data from - are by far the net recipients of such welfare i.e. the group paying high taxes, is the same group consuming those services. An underclass - when you take out the State's political class - has been virtually non-existent.

So this helps to obscure the net-negativity of the Welfare-State.

Empiricist Thomas Sowell has done the hard yards on this.

The majority of the people are as lazy as you are willing to treat them as though they shouldn't be expected to stand on their own two feet.... even if only after a hand-up.

Show me any country then where a social security safety net leads to fewer employed people?

The behaviour it may encourage is people not being forced out of their homes during periods of unemployment, or becoming a huge drain to their families at such times. It may lead to people taking a risk and starting a business, as they know they have an income of sorts, even if it isn't enough.

That sort of behaviour being encouraged is fine by me, and I don't feel ripped off if some of my tax money is spent on that. Maybe because I'm not a miserable git, or maybe it's because I can see that it creates a better society.

Every country who has adopted the form of government known as the 'State'.

From so-called '1st world' e.g. USA or UK, to so-called 'developing' country.

That assumes private charity would be non-existent, when you remove forced charity.

It also assumes most people don't arrive at this desperate condition due to being denied a license for non-consumer-driven reasons.

Stop pretending that you consent to taxation. Your consent is not needed.

If it's not needed prior to confiscation, why would it be needed to determine who to spend it on?

Maybe because I'm not a miserable git, or maybe it's because I can see that it creates a better society.
You feel that it creates a better society. You don't know,

I know that about you because I can see you don't read basic economics, or basic literature on how or what made the Western comparatively more prosperous..

Yeah ok, the people who live in those countries clearly don't know that they're meant to be miserable, perhaps you should let them know.

Anyway, you've regressed into your usual libertarian weirdo speak now, and I don't want to get more of your thread-derailing mumbo jumbo by rewarding it with further replies....

The claim that:

If the State were not involved, there would be less/no more opportunity for work/employment.

Is false on its face.

Basic logic should tell you that if there is a scarcity of provision of goods and services, on a mass scale, then there is an obvious employment opportunity.... at a mass scale.

To drive that point home, consider that human being's needs and wants are INFINITE!!!!

The only thing preventing fulfillment of needs and wants is the intervention of an uninvited 3rd party to otherwise voluntary, mutually beneficial interaction between consenting economic actors. That uninvited 3rd-party is the State, in one form or another.

I saw a tiktok video this morning where the residents were all cleaning up their streets, after the madness of yesterday. I guess it's being undone again

One thing, I will give the europeans over us Saffa's - they all do come together in many ways.

Perhaps all of us (rich/poor / taxpayers / non taxpayers) need to strike (without the looting because actually foreigners will not see the difference regardless) to change our government. When have we ever presented a united front to oppose the government??

Now watching rugby on public TV : Tolouse vs Exeter Chiefs

They should come to Brackenfell.

Bliksem se moer...

Difference is the red berets were not bombed into the stone age leaving them homeless, prior to their threats of violence.

They were merely promised free stuff, 'enough' of which they didn't receive.

But, due to the demographics of entitlements, if there is such a thing as contagion-by-social-media.... can you imagine how much worse things would be in SA, with the French sense of injustice?

The toxicity of government promises is off the friggin charts.

Sad how the businesses are being ransacked. I also saw this morning that Vitality's HQ and V.Hive was broken into and raided. Their CEO posted this,

Just a reminder: V.Hive was born from the dream of a child who grew up discovering and loving esports in cybercafés at a time when the Internet was still too expensive to have at home.

Since its opening, gaming sessions have been €3.50 per hour. This is no coincidence. We have always wanted teenagers and people with modest incomes to be able to come play, reconnect, and share their passion at a low cost. Despite inflation, we have never raised our rates.

V.Hive is also the symbol of our maturity. The determination to show that esports is not just lived behind a screen but that it brings people together, creates encounters, memories, and human connections.

I just lived a waking dream with our performance in Shanghai, and today, thousands of kilometers away, I see a part of me go up in smoke.

The right to demonstrate is a fundamental freedom that I will defend all my life. Thank you to those who mobilize for their convictions. But looting and destruction should never have a place in these fights.

Tonight, I simply have a lot of sorrow.

Neo is being too nice. Those who mobilised at the V.Hive wanted to smash and grab; they don't give a schit about your org. Where looting and destruction should never have taken place, it happened in his place.

There are way too many protesters capitalizing here; this is true criminal enterprise. I hope there is no honor among these thieves and vandals. The French are rolling over, their elections are prioritized, and here I thought that the Maccaron has grown a snor.

Decolonisation.

Where did the fires break out of?

Be honest terroristic thugs set the buildings on fire. No respect! They need to be bent over the parents knees and given a good spanking and then restricted to their bedrooms until they learn to behave properly.
