A South African woman turned her social grant money into a business that pays her R18,000 a month tax-free

Which came first, the chicken or the back room? Or was it the vetkoek?

This story is doing the rounds again, so the chicken one can't be far behind. I don't know why someone hasn't started renting out tax free back rooms AND selling tax free chickens simultaneously, then we would only need one story.

They could even sell the chickens to the back room occupants.

The free land RDP house came first.

Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana said SARS is developing an Informal Economy Response Strategy to help unregistered businesses formalise, understand their tax obligations and submit returns.
Going to be a while in development as their votes are more important that the potential tax.

Since the 2024/25 financial year, SARS data triggers have resulted in 21,890 previously unregistered informal-economy taxpayers being registered, generating R314 million in additional revenue.
And just like that those business do not exist anymore, actually paying tax is not in that sectors playbook.

There probably wasn’t sufficient outrage the first time they posted this story so they’re trying again and explicitly mentioning “zero tax” this time.

She is merely leading the way by boycotting tax - the same idea that makes many here decidedly moist with excitement, and the concept of which is regularly endorsed.

She is indeed a beacon of hope and a shining light to all self-respecting right wingers.

The outrage is that some people are more equal than others. Us commoners have to get building plans, pay rates and taxes. We are not complaining that she is making an income, we are complaining that the rules don't apply to her. Does she still collect her grant? What is the grant for? Its probably tax free because she gets rent in cash and she keeps it under the mattress or in the couch. Not a great idea posing for articles about informal success though as now shes on the radar not that means anything because, again, rules dont apply.
