South African city spends R1.27 million a month on security for public pools that remain closed

The City of Ekurhuleni spends R1.27 million a month on security for its public swimming pools, despite 32 of its 37 public pools remaining closed to the public.

Its a fairly reasonable number actually, so surprised by that, but then what is the state of those pools infrastructure, has that R34000 per month meant that the pools pumps, electrics, plumbing etc is all still there or are they just guarding a hole in the ground effectively?

They were built too big...should have made them smaller so it's easier to maintain.

And even that concrete hole in the ground is probably way beyond repair at this point.

From pictures that are available I would honestly guess that they have already been stripped of anything of value.
