Problem with the fight against solar power registration in South Africa

3 days of battery costs a lot more than a genny.

Anyway, cape town charge R425 fixed costs and dbn/pta charge nothing and jhb prepaid charge R240.
I prefer not to have the hassle of the additional servicing, trips to refuel, fumes, noise, price swings and the neighbor who will complain. As for other cities, it’s only a matter of time. Plus a decent genset for permanent install and all house use is a few batteries cost.

Problem with the fight against solar power registration in South Africa

South Africans pushing back against registering their rooftop solar power systems with Eskom or their municipality may be surprised to learn that most countries with advanced policies in this area require it.
Sounds like the normal whiny 'But France does it; nonsense we hear all the time from an infantile government. So, the usual applies, go off grid completely and extend a rigid middle digit to government.

How can eskoms grid cost R700 but cpt cost R425? Not all of us that don’t want to pay eskoms extortion fee are oppenheimers so would make do with 5kW genny to charge battery and limp along or forgo genny and rather drink vodka.

Homepower 4 - Standard 80A

Service and Admin Charge @ R5.74 per day for 30 days R 172.20
Network Capacity Charge @ R9.08 per day for 30 days R 272.40
Generation Capacity Charge @ R0.71 per day for 30 days R 21.30

R535 incl. Different companies, different models. Eskom has no incline pricing on energy and is cheaper than CT.

The vodka may help with the monoxide poisoning. ;)

I'll be writing to Burger Bros to match McDonalds pricing immediately. On a serious note, City Power is such a sh1tsh0w that they make Eskom look like market leaders in service. Don't know what happens when a transformer blows up in Cape Town?
What happens? The last I heard was a large area went out and was fixed in 2 hours. Faults in dbn also get fixed in less than 2 hours.

Do you work for Eskom or just live in an eskom bubble?

Ask anyone downstream from Houtkoppen substation if they'd prefer to be on Eskom vs City Power. Eskom have far better back feeding capacity if and when necessary. Just a regular electricity consumer.

So what. 25% limit is a 25% limit, doesn't matter if you on cpt grid or eskom grid. At least cpt pay you real money when you go into credit.

The backfeeeding im talking about is Eskoms capacity allows them to route a neighborhoods supply to another substation while the local substation is repaired. Hence why City Power customers went days without power when Eskom Direct customers were resumed same day and the failure was the same substation.
