South Africa beats Australia, sets world record with 7.6km-long train

Transnet has set a new world record for the longest train operation, beating Australia's 2001 record with a 696 wagon iron ore train which recently travelled 861km between Saldanha and Kathu.

Not trying to diminish this, but I believe the BHP train was loaded with ore, which is more impressive than returning empty cars back to Sishen.

What just about to ask if my logic, based on the facts presented, that it was empty, was sound,

I drove next to this train about a month or two ago.

I thought it was odd that it was that long, I did not realise it was setting records.
It was full of ore when I saw it.

The kids enjoyed seeing it.

What's even more impressive is that there actually still is 861km of continuous railway left in South Africa.

Waiting at the level crossing for it to pass...

It's something, at least.

Damn, that's cool, that's a long ass train, South Africa is doing good things. That's awesome. I want to see that train.

That's good, some good news for once out of this crazy country of ours.....

Yeah we also saw it going past. After a while I started counting and stopped after 100.

It looked like an animated gif.

Just because you can, does not mean you should.

Imagine waiting for this train at a railway crossing?

It would be more impressive to have more working trains and railroad, and less trucks on our roads.
