Problem with the fight against solar power registration in South Africa

You were in the meeting so would have heard the responses from the people.
Bud it was a meeting about issues in the area. Some questions about who registers and who doesn't were covered. Does your mind always go absolute?

Actually, Eskom needs to know how many kW of power might vanish when a cloud pops up overhead because they suddenly need to provide it in an unscheduled manner.

If that doesn't work for you, each solar install increases the local grid voltage, and can push it out of spec which causes problems with solar chargers and occasionally trips out the local grid... happens in 1st world countries as well...

Eskom needs to make sure the metering systems (grid scale) can handle potential back-feed where needed and they need to know where it may happen.

There are real engineering reasons for this, but you'd also be correct if you were to add Eskom wanted to cash cow this as well...

D
1) Eskom already has to plan this, and each house already has a fixed current limit. Inverter cannot exceed grid load.
2) Inverters are smart enough to handle that. And that is assuming they are feeding back. Which they won't be in most cases.
3) Eskom should already be handling that. Retards with a suicide plug have been able to do this forever

What Eskom should be doing is making it worth the while for solar users to keep their grid connections. Not milk them at every stage. They could solve their own problems very much by embracing solar users rather than punishing them. Like if they made use of Deye's virtual battery for example. They give you a partial rebate on fixed costs if they can coordinate when your system pushes electricity into the grid.

If you have cheap electricity in the day (solar), and cheap at night(Eskom excess capacity), then that makes everyone happier. And with EVs becoming more popular, they will have a huge opportunity to eat up petrol revenue.

The tariff plan they move you to is TOU. So you could in essence dump your EV during peak at R3.66 exported and refill off-peak. Offpeak is R1.91 imported. Vary the times and you can net zero energy use.

You have to charge during the same TOU period you exported to offset.

What does "same TOU period" mean to you?
Seriously? It's simply arbitrage. You need to balance imports and exports within each TOU category over the billing period, ideally achieving net zero in all three. It's really not that hard to dump into each category on good days. Even easier if you have a Bidi EV.

What are your fixed charges now?

How can eskoms grid cost R700 but cpt cost R425? Not all of us that don’t want to pay eskoms extortion fee are oppenheimers so would make do with 5kW genny to charge battery and limp along or forgo genny and rather drink vodka.
Don't forget city power where prepaid is R240 and post paid is R1400.
You telling me that having someone come read your meter is R1160 worthy? Cause what else difference?
