3d Printers South Africa

I am in the market for a dryer - what are you guys using? I am looking at the Creality Space Pi SE or Space Pi 2.

Also, what are the specs of your computers used for slicing? I have a Ryzen 5 3400G with 16GB RAM, that is struggling with the more complex stuff...
I have the dual slot Creality Space Pi. I7 14th gen, 32GB RAM, 8GB GPU laptop. And a Ryzen 7 with 32GB RAM. I have used it on computers with 16GB RAM before but the new Snapmaker Orca is very RAM hungry. Ive seen the slicer alone using 11GB RAM. Slicing seems to be more CPU intensive instead of GPU intensive.

What's funny is, each time I look at the pricing for 3D filament driers all I see is a ripoff.
I'm thinking of just getting one of these.
Adjustable from 40 - 200 Celsius should do it.
Two things that I would be worried about: some ovens will heat up the element to the max to get to the set temperature and then only switch the element off/on to regulate temperature. If the element goes to 200C before switching off it could potentiality melt the top your roll. TPU at R500+ per KG would not be something I would want to risk...(so maybe try cheap pla first). Secondly I am not sure if it seals in the moisture in the chamber or if it will circulate air to the outside... The driers usually have a place for silica gel and some vent holes. But yes I guess they are overpriced for such a simple device.

Hot spots are definitely a potential issue to be aware of, I can't speak on that, but I think putting a piece of silicon on top of a roll as well as underneath it can go a long way. As for the air, my existing air fryer at least vents everything. I use it all the time to dry out silica gel and it works great.

I use a DIY dry box to keep my spare filament at around 20% humidity and then use the CFS with plenty of silica gel. The humidity in my CFS is at 12% now.

Tell me about your DIY dry box. I have a plastic box with lid that fits about 15 or so rolls of filament, and it is lined with each packet of silica beads I can get my hands on, adding more every time I open a role of filament. Not sure how efficient it is, that's why I'm asking around.

I store my filament in a "dry box" (I think it is supposed to be a dog food container!) that manages to keep the humidity < 18% and then dry them in a Space Pi before and during printing. Without that thing I am not able to print PETG.

That could end badly. If you look online you will see DIY dryer solutions that use the heated build plate with a cover for the spool. This is cheap and allows for precise temperature regulation.

So many vibe coded tools. Feels like new ones are popping up almost daily. View attachment 1947255

You used to need a team to build that kind of thing and had to either get some friends involved or try and get open source devs to join your repo but with AI you can do most of it yourself these days. Its both great and sad at the same time.

F**k you Mr. Bacteria, that's 3 months of my life I'll never get back.
(please please please don't do this to me again 😢:crying:)

RaptorSA's back from the dead motherf**ers!
Here to annoy you with my latest Dinosaur print project.... in fact, I won't harp in about this, but things have happened behind the scenes and when you see me post future Dinosaur or other related prehistoric prints, there's a good chance you won't ever see that again from anywhere else.

Anyway, well be doing Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus.... I held off on this one for a very long time, but, we're actually, finally, understanding what this thing looked like.

This one's going to be interesting, since it's swimming/wading I'd have to figure that all out.
Lekker.

I don't like picking favourites, but dearlord... I had a blast printing this one and seeing it take shape over the past two weeks.

Spinosaurus aegyptiacus, 1.5 Meters to keep with the 1/10 scale collection.
I'll never understand why humans bother with fantasy creatures out there when this was an actual thing.
