Until Sony / Microsoft do a 180 on their stance that I don't own my purchased downloadable games, I am not getting another console.

i paid r5k each for both of mine

series x was about 9k at that time

i should have went with that

but yeah around 10-15k is ok for next gen

Aren't you a grandpa now? Stop playing with yourself and go play with the chirrens

I live in a world where 20-odd-year-olds think that a R40 000-R50 000 gaming PC is cheap. R35 000 is my high, and a next-gen gaming console I would max at R15 000. Not, given my situation, is that plausible.

Where kids get money today, I dunno, but clearly the market exists.

Whenever I go on social media, tech companies aren't exactly putting their budget products on display.

It’s easy if you plan to live with your mom and dad for the rest of your life.

Exactly why I asked above because people are paying far more for cellphones and replacing them bi-annually than the projected console costs which will go for 5+ years.

I would rather have it be top of the like for more money than see it compromised.

What does your current phone cost?
I dunno? Its a Samsung A54. El-Cheapo thats getting updates and seems to do what I require from it. I cant justify spending flagship money on a device that spends 90% of its life in my pocket or on a desk.

Sub 25k I will pre order.
Over 25k I will buy a bigger couch first because i will be sleeping on it

It depends. If they no longer support any physical format and require digital only licensing, then R0 as I won't be buying one and will just move to PC permanently.

Otherwise I think around R15-20k is probably the max, based on the trajectory of prices that seems like it would be most likely where it would land (and still appeal to at least some people still).

Then that perfectly explains why you would balk at the console prices.

If the new Xbox does end up being half a PC and can also run any PC game I think people will get very flexible on how much they are willing to pay.

It's less about ownership reasons at that point, as if no platform offers ownership then I'd rather just use PC for the flexibility. SteamOS is plenty good enough now for a console-like experience so that limitation is also gone.

Being able to use physical games and having a seamless couch experience are the two main reasons I would want to use a console. When neither of those things hold true for consoles anymore then what's the point.

Because I don't spend a lot of money on a cellphone? Strange logic.

I don't see the point in a console. I've had multiple ones in the past and I return to PC gaming every time. The whole ecosystem doesn't appeal to me at all - especially when they make it more expensive than a more capable PC.
