It's not about ownership for the majority of us lol. Our PC libraries are all digital and we accept virtual licenses on our Steam games.

It's about the freedom to choose.

If Sony gives you the middle-finger your are well and truly ****ed your games and media are gone for good with the snap of a finger (already happened).

If Steam ever gives us the middle finger we have 100's of other places to reobtain it from.

It's not rocket science.

Because I don't spend a lot of money on a cellphone? Strange logic.

I don't see the point in a console. I've had multiple ones in the past and I return to PC gaming every time. The whole ecosystem doesn't appeal to me at all - especially when they make it more expensive than a more capable PC.

Because of the way you perceive value in technology.

Others have normalised 25k cellphones, so a 25k console doesn’t seem all that outrageous.

It’s not a judgement, just an observation.

Oddly I’ve had the same experience as you but inverted because every time I go back to PC it’s such a hard fail I give up again pretty quickly.

But that’s also why I would be willing to pay more for the next Xbox if it does do PC gaming without the fail.

So if steam gives you the middle finger you pirate.

This logic doesn’t seem to hold up since they’re jailbreaking consoles with ease thanks to AI now. So if Sony screwed tou like Steam, you could just pirate too?

The problem is utility. R25k+ for a machine that ONLY plays games and nothing else, plus it's usually not backwards compatible with games from previous console gens 🤢

Just get a gaming laptop/PC at that point. At least you can do other things on it. And Steam is a breeze and absolutely huge!

Both Xbox and PS are very backwards compatible now…and that’s a very good reason to stick around.

If you move to PC you lose EVERYTHING.

Also I bought a console to play games…why on earth should it do other stuff?

If you are a console gamer then PC gaming is an abomination in frustration.

It's a bit easier these days with Steam Big Picture Mode, but I get your point.

Solely based on price (especially in this country) console gaming is going to tank quite badly in the next few years.

I've never pirated a single game in my life. I'm 48 years old not ****ing 16. I don't even know how to pirate I have no torrent client installed.

Thankfully, I've always been able to afford it.

If Steam takes my game away, there's 100's of other stores I can "reobtain" it from.

We will have to see.

Most console owners I know own multiple consoles, I see that maybe changing but not anyone walking away entirely.

But again this is where Xbox playing the PC-support game may very well win many people over.

It’s sad the Steambox isn’t available here officially because that would have been interesting statistically.

You okes must use/frame in utility.

The concept is extremely varied between individuals.

For eg. I find little actual utility in the top end iPhone if my current one is modern enough does what it needs to. I would rather justify a higher bucks spend for a better Mac. Why? A higher utility for me.

YMMV.

There are not 100s of other stores.

There’s a few digital storefronts, some key retailers which redeem on said storefronts and many key resellers funded by stolen credit cards and the like.

So if Steam pulls, many keys and games are dead especially indies. I don’t know anyone with extensive Epic/Windows/Uplay/Ea store libraries so you’d spend a fortune if you had to rebuy the rest too.

I would be willing to pay for what it is, if it costs around a mid range gaming PC maybe R15 - 20k then its a good deal much more and it's worthwhile for me to go back to PC gaming.

Sadly I probably won't be around to see the next Gaystation or Helix WTF people are going to call it.

For R20k it has be decent, for anything higher than that is must be godly.

Could probably buy a monster PC / Laptop for anything around R30k ... meh ;)

I'd rather build a PC. Though prices are getting insane so I'll just try and hold onto my older tech for as long as possible while sticking to mainly good games instead of new games. (RTX4070 laptop)

R30k used to be enough to get to a near top-end system but now that's more like mid-range to lower end.
