Any banks that don't change statements after posting them?

I've noticed that Standard Bank credit card statements will regularly change the dates or OFX transaction ids of entries from one day to the next.

This regularly screws up my reconciliation with my personal budget software (yay YNAB!), causing duplicate entries.

Are there any South African banks that don't do this? A coworker tells me ABSA does the same to him regularly as well.

I can't imagine that business customers put up with this crap. Surely there must be many businesses that reconcile with their bank accounts daily, given how often people pay by EFT nowadays.

Can confirm 8 years later this is still a problem.

GNUCash imports are a bit more inconvenient because of this. I wonder if this issue has gone un-noticed by SBSA or if their is no desire to fix it. It seems they are just using (Posting Date + Transaction Position) to calculate the ID's therefore all you have to do to stay consistent is import 30day intervals that match your bank statement dates and they should stay the same... still not ideal.

I could write a python script to Hash("Transaction Description"+"Date"+"Value") but i think i am going to speak to my banker first and see if they can just fix the issue as they are violating the OFX spec quite clearly by not keeping the ID's consistent.

There’s interim statements, current statements and an official statement. The latter is not allowed to change as it’s a final one . The other two can depending on posted transactions, auth date vs settlement date and so forth.

Hi @neoprema can we download the official statements as OFX files on personal accounts?

Edit: I suspect this is not possible, when i get a gap this week i will write and share a short python clickable program that makes the ID consistent by using a hash of the transaction information and date, their is a chance a collision occurs for transactions of the same amount, on the same date, with the same description, but i am personally comfortable accepting this risk. I will also add a warning if the input contains outstanding authorizations.

I don't think so as one of the requirements i believe (when i was working for a Bank a long time ago) was that it must be un-editable. The OFX or any other format is probably generated from interim or "current" statements.
