Things that irritate you - Part 4

I took a drive this morning to the (eden)Vale. The lights around the mall have not worked in ages (I don't think I've seen them working this year): the big intersection with 5 different roads and directions is fun. At least somebody (assuming unemployed person) is a traffic director at the intersection with the BP. The return trip was a swing down Allendale Road to Kyalami Race Track to go to the strip mall nearby: also lights out that have not worked in months

So.. given all the trips I have taken lately, I am noticing a lot of traffic lights out around JHB/Ekurhuleni. I am getting confused, and treating working lights as 4way stops (hangover from loadshedding).

I doubt the voting in a few weeks will change much, at least not short term, but seriously, has everything been hollowed out so much that nobody can fix, or does nobody give a damn?

Ekurhuleni was forsaken a long time ago.

I try not to drive around at night because it is downright unsafe. Almost everywhere you go is in total darkness because there is nary a working streetlight; the roads have been cratered thanks to all the trucks (especially in Germiston and surrounds) and it is hit and miss whether the traffic lights are going to be working (coupled with how terrible the average SAfrican driver has become), so every trip is a risk of you running into something you can't see or being hit by someone because intersections are a lottery.

Seriously, take Refinery Road (Germiston), hit the M2 and climb on to the N3 and you will only see a working streetlight when you reach somewhere around Midrand (the N1). The N3 itself is in total darkness.

And then when you get home, it is increasingly becoming a lottery on whether you will have water or not.

Can confirm.
