I think most of us would agree that the kind of democracy that brings about societal decline is not the kind where individuals stand up for the Bill of Rights.

It's the kind where you can vote away rights that the majority doesn't particularly benefit from in their short-term view e.g. property rights, and the right to secede.

The former version of democracy is fine. It's limited by a BoRs.

The latter is little more than mob-rule, with one variation or another of bells and whistles and lip-syncing.. (2 wolves and a sheep voting on what's for dinner)
