Transport minister wants to use taxpayer money to transition South Africa’s taxi industry to electric vehicles

I did not read the article, but if they can make that etaxi to stop at red robots, and not driving on illegal places.
could they start by not stopping where ever the hell they want... But I also blame the pedestrians, we have pedestrians who have no freaking road safety logic.
Lets walk across the road with a working traffic light 2m away, but hey dodging the cars is more fun.

if setting up charging ports in the Taxi's you will start having taxi warfare not over routes but over who gets to charge their EV's first and also how long will the charging ports be up before someone starts stealing the components from it.
Just remember, the taxi industry is almost the perfect example of a bottom-up industry. They can adapt to the market on a dime, which is why they are successful whilst other transport is not. It will rapidly figure out how to do EV charging. And what do you think these guys will do to someone who sabotages their chargers?

They figured out their own sign language without anyone formalising a standard dictionary because they needed a way for passengers to tell passing-by taxis where they were wanting to go. Which is orders of magnitude cheaper, simpler and more reliable than any app.

How do you get MW electricity to taxi ranks in the first place? Who pays for that? The more reasonable picture happening is they charge overnight for free with their bypassed eskom meters seeing they only do 200km per day.

It is a measure of just how much the ANC/EFF/tendertwat clerisy despise ordinary working black people in forcing them to commute in these disgusting, decrepit heaps of crap piloted by low IQ sociopaths.

They had every opportunity to remove at least some of the savagery, malfeasance, tax dodging and general criminality. Taxi lanes, official stops, secure payment options, standards for cleanliness/safety/roadworthiness, security and the rest - but they're indolent, avaricious, cruel and extremely stupid.

So we have what we have.

Like most of the ANC supporters do now, it will charge every time the traffic light is green, or red or yellow.

Yip. The blind leading the blind. Cape Town with their super duper law enforcement is also the same as the rest of the country.

My "favourite" is when they run across major freeways, right underneath the pedestrian bridge that is in place to keep them safe... and then having to regularly drive passed silver blankets in that space with cops and paramedics around.

In my experience the behaviour of the Cape drivers is pretty much identical to the JHB ones.

There is modicum of additional roadblocks and checks targeting the CT lot, but it appears to be window dressing. All they have to do is threaten a riot and the cops back down.

For one thing, the EVs are guaranteed to be newer. So you already have less risk. The car will just stop working before anything bad happens.

I might add that setting a fuel tank on fire is also a runaway chemical fire risk

That requires a taxi driver to actively be a fscking retard and put fire in the fuel tank.
With an EV, he just has to be his normal retard and drive like a twat and not maintain his vehicle at all and the cells could get punctured.

Ah yeah that is classic, plenty of pedestrian bridges, but hardly see anyone using it, instead they will play a game of frogger. Lets not forget the taxi stopping on a double main road on the other side and now their passenger has to try cross this road, it seems some of them didn't pass kindergarden, as road safety is not on their minds.

Remember, you have a good problem if you have too many electric vehicles.

They have an interesting solution to use batteries that trickle charge from the grid.

Silver blankie is the ethereal device which unites our hapless heroes with Nkulunkulu in Elysian Fields.

An EV not maintained for 10 years is much safer than an ICE not maintained for 10 years. What maintenance are we talking about here? EVs still have brake pads after 10 years, ICE don't.

Now you want to starve the cardboard industry?

Coolants in an EV are something that need to be maintained, things need to be checked etc.
