Cleaners for luxury property rentals go on strike in Camps Bay

I wonder what the average daily rental rate is for these properties. And then compare it to the R270 paid to these workers.
With this reasoning Ferrari's and Lambo's should be barred from filling up at stations reserved for plebs?
Dedicated fuel stations and attendants that earn much more just because they tend to a multi million ZAR vehicle?

Work is work, regardless where it happens.
I nice office with a view over Camps bay is a bonus.

Actually people on this thread are right, who needs humanity, throw these people to the wolves.
Screw the reality of their situation, exploit them to the maximum, that's best way to have a fairer more open society.
And who cares if they complain, there's people lining up to take their positions, this company holds the power here so if the employees want to leave there's the door, lol.

I do wonder how their clientele will feel when they find out the people serving them in these properties are being paid $16 for a days work. Thats one advantage of social media, it’s free for anyone to use, Nox would probably be wise to heed that.

Sure, but I bet there are other companies in the area paying better wages and making more money. Not in the news, because they're getting on with business.

And then when this lot go under, they'll blame minimum wage. Lol.
I'm not in the cleaning industry but a company like say Bidvest Cleaning, I would be surprised if they are paying much more than that, if that.

The company we use to book a cleaner for our house, as said was R400 for the day. If they were paying the same R270 a day it only leaves R130 profit to the business which i not much if you still have to factor in opex/capex so I doubt they are paying significantly more.

Just comparing one of the units Nox has to other airbnb's in the same area, I don't see them making more than 20% off the deal which is pretty low so they not exactly printing money

Sure, but the company doesn't appear to be a sub contractor supplying labour to the management company - it's a direct employment situation and they charge an overall management fee. They aren't solely dependant on skimming off the domestic worker.

But either way it doesn't matter. If the employees are earning less than that which is typical for the area, they will lose staff and the costs I mentioned previously will be incurred.

Not a great business model.

What a stupid analogy. There are thousands of "normal" cars for every Ferrari that pulls up. There is one high-end rental property per cleaner.

PS - petrol attendants also get tips. Then again, seeing as you are trying to defend a R270 daily wage, you are most probably a miserable turnip that never tips.

The type that thinks you are doing them a favour by driving a petrol /diesel car and not an EV...

If I clean your luxury beach view property for R270 and I walk away looking satisfied, I can assure you the last thing you'd ever want to bring into that place is a UV light.

wow... 270 for a camps bay house..

Meanwhile in the suburbs we pay R400

Though, R270 is probably minus the labour broker fee.
Companies like this get closer to the real market value than upper middle class people with guilty feelings over their own success.

Paying someone R400 is still a joke. You are not giving them a comfortable life. They are still living in a shack. You cannot rent a bachelor flat on that salary.

Having seen enough holiday accommodation, these cleaners have a very chill job most of the time.

However I would value competent and trustworthy cleaners a lot more and fix this situation by creating a senior title for some and paying them more plus bonuses. To see if it is really a problem you would need to look at the staff turnover rate.

If they pay poorly, they'll get people who can't find better work. Putting those people into high end houses comes with its own risks, which would in turn affect the company's reputation.

I've always found that paying good people better than average salaries is one of the better ways to achieve continuity of employment, productivity and quality.
High end houses that are rented out.

The guest are just as likely to steal shít as the cleaners so there isn't any jewelry laying around and it probably has security.

here we go.

The daily rate doesn't really say much.

As a poor I think it is ridiculous, but to do this calculation you need to look at all the cost and the occupation rate and ultimately the profit if you want to make this moral calculation of, is the cleaner getting their fair share.

It is still irrelevant though as cleaning is a low skill job and we have an over saturated market of desperate people who can do it.

R400 per day before overtime paid by the upper middle class is better than the pittance paid by this corporation.

Damn you trickle down economics why are you not working!!
We need Airbnb in Cape Town because it brings in much needed wealth for the rich people...
This is trickle down economics working you might just be to stupid to understand it.

Facts.
1. 1 rich person has a holiday home,
2. Another rich person wants to use it.
3. They do not owe the poor people anything.

With the above facts in mind that transaction creates about 20 jobs. Uber drivers, cleaners, restaurant staff, delivery drivers, security, tour guides, spa therapist... the entire tourism industry works the same way and thousands of people get some employment.

There is no other way to do this. The commies have tried and failed. You are starting from the false assumption that the rich doesn't deserve what they have and the poor deserve more just out of empathy.

You cannot redistribute that wealth from the rich to the poor because there's no other mechanism to do it. Funneling it through the state is a giant waste that makes everyone worse off. (This is a proven fact) the best way to redistribute wealth and create even more is "trickle down" free market economics . Where rich people are allowed to spend their money how they wish.

And everyone involved in the transaction is a consenting adult. If these cleaners don't want to work for the current price they can always stay home and get nothing then there is no trickle down.

Yes better obviously any higher amount is "better"

But lets not pretend that is a wage on which someone can have a dignified life.
