I damaged the trailer electrical connection on my Mercedes. I bought the part from the agents at the absolute ridiculous price of R2 641. Now the agents want more than R10 000 to install the new part. Can that be a reasonable price in anyone's books?

The image shown in that forum post is actually a torn suspension control arm bushing, not a trailer electrical connection.

It appears the user on the MyBroadband forum uploaded the wrong picture or mislabeled the image. What you are looking at is a cracked and separated rubber mount that fits inside a car's suspension system to absorb road vibrations. [1]

Bull.

You don't screw bushes in place. That could very well be a trailer electrics plug screwed onto a mounting plate.

****ing ai garbage. You should hang your head in shame.

Ask @Pax but first I want to know why it broke. Has it done 350 000km yet?

Stealership gonna do what they do best, only second to the ANC cadres.

That's a R500 repair there.

Nope. Don't believe everything Google tells you. The metal part is the actual tow hook and the black part is the electrical connection plug. The black part, as you can see, is broken

Maybe not R 500 because to connect the new plug the bumper must be removed. My local garage says they are not prepared to do it because of all the electronics in the bumper.
I think that R3000 would be more fair.

Electronics again... instilling fear even into the most experienced motor tradesmen

That item is not going to cost R2500 to replace...
I would like to believe that but where?
Here you can see the replacement part anf its rather long wiring loom. Below is the actual tow hook with the broken plug.

Ahh Merc parts...
Anyway... that's a straightforward item to replace.
So to clarify, is it the spare part itself that costs R13k in Merc Tax, or is it the whole job?

No f**king ways man... The labour on that installation is simple... easy peasy.
Vehicle is under warranty so you're schitt outta luck.
Under new consumer laws I am allowed to get someone else to work on the car without affecting the warranty. But you know how Mercedes is. If anything goes wrong afterwards, they are going to say it is all my fault and charge me R70 000 to fix it.
