So Cape Town comes up with a solution for vandalism to protect traffic lights, but ANC run municipalities can't?... says a lot about which political party should run a city.
what solution does cape town use? our robots here in durban still work aswell.

In some sections of Jo'burg most traffic lights have been off for weeks, we suspect it's the huge money-owed issue between City Power and Eskom. Same thing really.

It's in the article;

“Cape Town is piloting a different answer. At some high-risk intersections, the city seals a traffic light’s wiring and components in a buried concrete chamber,” he said.

“Sensors alert law enforcement if someone tries to dig it up, and batteries keep the lights running during power cuts. The city’s mayoral committee has described the chambers as a success.”

According to AI, Cape Town spent R7.7m and Durban spent R4.36m last year.

Do Durban's traffic lights work? I'm interested to know. I was in Durban in December last year and was quite pleasantly surprised to see how clean the CBD was - well specifically around Durban port.

Just wondering if the broken street lights and traffic lights is a JHB phenomenon. Don't really hear about it in Pretoria either.

Yes, they all work here.

Is this vandalism or theft?

Why does MyBB refer to this as Vandalism?

Vandalism is the willful, malicious, or deliberate destruction, damage, or defacement of public or private property belonging to someone else

Stop with these euphemisms.
Call a spade-a-spade.

Next myBB will say "These good citizens were just clearing up pollution caused by 'unalived' traffic lights!"

There are a lot of lights that are always suffering from vandalism, and areas where street light are replaced then cut down the same night for scrap metal. Think of the M7 N2 intersection, and all the way along from there to Wakesleigh road, and all the way up that, and all the way to Albert Luthuli, and into Cato Manor informal as well. the rest of Edwin Swales also has regular theft of both lights, cables and even the crash barrier as well. Then Umgeni road by the N2, where the lights, fencing and traffic signals are stolen, and the signs also go as well. Just 2 areas I see on a regular basis where they go, and are regularly broken.
