Ambassador Greer Issues Statement on President Trump’s Intent to Terminate Rwanda and South Africa from the AGOA Trade Preference Program

The Governments response is predictable.

Ahead of the AGOA announcement, Tau said the government was making contingency plans regardless of the outcome.

As part of these plans, he said the government will accelerate the diversification of South Africa’s export markets.

This will see South Africa pursuing export opportunities across Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

So nothing is setup yet. All talk as usual.

One thing you should know by now, South Africans might have their differences, but nothing unites us more than seeing our right wingers uniting with Trump to further their right wing agenda.

So it won't work now, it won't work next year and it still won't work when the last right winger is in America.

So rest assured
That is not what this is about. This is about our politicians currying favour with countries who do almost no business (except china - another story) with us and who are hostile to countries who buy the bulk of our processed goods. One of the advantages of dealing with democracies is that intransigent leaders will not be there forever. You smile and take their money. This has nothing to do with right wingers.

Aligned with right wing positions yet they continue to vote for parties on the left? Have you ever considered they might just be trolling the pollsters and confusing the enemy?
Only 60% of people who can vote are registered to vote.
Of that, 58% actually rock up to vote (nationally). In ANC wonderlands like JHB, it is in the 40s.
Of that, lets say optimistically, 60% vote for leftist/black nationalist parties like the ANC and their spinoffs.

If you run the numbers, it is only about 20% of adults that actually support it. So using how people vote to infer what people believe is a bit fraught.

Also political elections are a selection of limited options, people will never be able to select a party that matches their values. And there is more complexity because it is usually a local personality in the area. Not necessarily on values or manifestos, or even delivery for that matter.
