Cool Ideas Fibre ISP – Feedback Thread 7

Another off topic question, considering I am on 200mbps, generally when I limit steam to download at 50mbps, I still see latency spikes of 20-50, what could be the cause of this?
bufferfloat typically, but if it's not using the full line, could be ECMP routing or congestion upstream from your line.

On cable or wifi?

cable, i have pretty much tested it in peak hours and off peak hours and seems to behave the same

Does the same happen when you limit it on the router side rather than on steam side for the client device?
As routers tend to de-prioritize ICMP once it starts getting busy, buti agree at 50mbps it shouldn't really be much of an issue,

But from what I can see on the monitoring, I don't see any major ping spikes, so could also be coming from the PC prioritising the download traffic rather than ICMP

I'll check on that tonight and come back to you

If it's a TP-Link WR1300 or such they really don't do well under load in my experience. I would download something at less than line rate and still struggle with other tasks back in the day.

Makes an OK access point with another router behind it handling QoS.
