R207-Z wifi router - Internet connection possible via USB?

Hi There. One of my friends has a laptop without Wifi, and was sold a wifi router over the phone. Can I help her to connect to the internet by installing some driver? She has an old Windows XP laptop. Thanks for any help. Herman
