1.2G in one day?

I checked my usage this morning and it's at 1.2G already (the 2nd of the month). Now I know that I didn't download that much yesterday, but, I probably did close to that on Sunday (the 31st) when I was at around 2.8G. Thought I was being clever you see.[:D]

Sooo, is Telkom "carrying over" excess bandwitdh that you use up on the last day of the month to the next month?
 
I did the same thing - downloaded like mad on Sunday to finish up my 3GB and whatever else I could get. The report I got from Telkom this morning said I had up/downloded 35MB so I don't think they carry it over.

Hmm, seems I might have a problem then. Although I've sometimes seen the usage page show the same value for days in a row.
 
Telkom really needs to do something about their reports. So many people are complaining about how inaccurate they are. You probably need to do the dreadful task of contacting Telkom about this.

I noticed on IT Web's site that there is a growing list of letters re ADSL and the problems with it.

Someone with facts could easily add a letter there. I guess that more public exposure would do no harm.
 
I suspect two things:

1. The online tracker is buggy, or
2. Someone is helping themselves to bandwidth from accounts not their own.

The first thing I did was change my router password to something obscure, so I doubt that I've been hacked.

Unfortunately I haven't been running my own monitoring software recently since Telkom's reports have looked pretty accurate for me the last month or so.
 
Andre, someone on the board posted a link for a nice little proggy which does the tracking for you. It's shareware, but has been a great help for me.

Thanks, but I was actually using DUMeter and stopped using it because it pretty much agreed with the Telkom site most of the time and it was "Yet Another Icon In the System Tray". Truth be told, DUMeter often showed a bit *more* usage than the Telkom usage tracker.

I've emailed [email protected] as suggested by one of the DSL phone support people, so I suppose I'll have to wait and see if anything comes of it.

More weirdness while looking at the 3 month graph:
June : 0 MB downloaded, 0 MB uploaded, 0 MB used (I got DSL towards the end of May)
July : 3.3044 GB downloaded, 934.5656 MB uploaded, 4.2170 GB used
August : 2.8561 GB downloaded, 146.9657 MB uploaded, 2.9996 GB used

3 Month View
Downloaded : 6.1605 GB
Uploaded : 1.0561 GB
Total bandwidth used : 7.2166 GB

Hmmm.
 
I think the amount of traffic transferred is allocated to the month when the connection is terminated. So if you download like crazy on the last day, but your connection gets dropped only on the first, it'll go into the new month.

Might want to disconnect prior to midnight of the 1st.

That's what it looks like to me. Of course had I know that, I would have disconnected.[:0]

Telkom support sent me an Excel spreadsheet with my usage for the 1st and if I'm reading it right it shows over 1Gig of usage within the space of an hour and a quarter. Maybe they upgraded me to a 2Gig line in the middle of the night.[:)]
 
I wonder how possible it would be to have a real time tracker? Anyone have any ideas? Would make my life a lot easier.

... i get the feeling though that your usage from the last day of the month is carried over to the new month depending on when you connect/disconnect. e.g. I connect at 3pm on the last day of the month, go on a download spree and get disconnected at 3pm the following day. The period from 3pm -&gt; 12 am from the previous day is counted as part of the new month.

This is wrong and should be corrected by telkom! If this is indeed the case then telkom are knowingly stealing valuable MB's from us. Can any1 confirm that this is indeed happening.
 
You only see the day's stats after the graph was updated just after midnight. It is however supposed to show the prev 24hrs total against the correct date.

i.e. If I download 110MB on the 3rd of the month, then on the 4th, I should see the graph updated and showing my 110MB download drawn against the 3rd on the graph... Otherwise the graph is useless.

And if they for some reason delay the stats for another 24 hrs, then the graph only shows you what you downloaded 2 days ago. Sorry, that just sounds idiotic... but with Telkom it may just be possible.

I've seen two other forum posts from people reporting the same thing.
 
This is how I understand that graph:
It updates at 24h00
So you only see up to previous day?
Also, the actuall bars are incremental on previous day .. so if you got say 500Mb on day 2 and 200 on day 3, day 3 would be higher than day 2, an not lower cause of less data, cause it incl. day 2 and 1's data - see what i'm getting to?

It updates when you are disconnected, whether that be at 3pm or 3am. This is telskums reasoning for disconnecting every1 every 24 hours - to update the graphs. It's supposed to update the previous day's stats ... I think that the current day of disconnect is being updated with previous day's usage.

No, the snag seems to be if you are connected on the last day of the month and stay connected into the first, Telkom's graph shows you on the 2nd the combined usage of the 1st AND the 31st.

Hehe, hope that made sense.
