Hi All

I no longer have any need for the following:

1. Telkom USB ADSL Pots modem
2. ISDN PCI Card Modem

If you know of any organisation or person that may benefit from these I'm happy to give them away for free. I'm not going to do any background checks, so if you can afford these, yet choose to take them for free, then it's on your conscience. On the other hand if the items really will benefit someone in need, then all the better.

I live in Parkview, JHB, I will send a private message to the first and second respondents for each item. They can collect from my house. When responding please specify ADSL or ISDN so that others can see whether the item is still available.

Cheers
Steve

Maybe email a few schools in your area ?

Seriously, any individuals who can't afford an ISDN or ADSL modem certainly won't be able to afford the Telkom fees !

would be great if Telkom gave a few free ADSL connections to schools

Exactly what I was thinking. They usually subsidise the service but require you to purchase the device.

It's a very nice offer st3ve

That's a great offer st3ve.

I work for an organisation called Mamelani Projects-www.mamelani.org.za .
We could certainly do with an ADSL modem.

Let me know if this is possible.

yeah handing over tech you don't need to a school or 'disadvantaged community' project is always the way to go. Good karma. I've got an IBurst modem sitting here that I'm gonna have to do something with eventually - but I just don't hate any organisation enough to give them an IBurst modem :)

How does the USB ADSL modem work?

It works the same as an ethernet modem, however it just plugs into the USB port on your PC ... which means you cannot pass it through a router or anything - esp if you want the router to handle the PPPOE and firewall. Works great if you just have one machine, and do not want to share the connection.

If you've got something to give away to a worthy cause and need an outlet, a good place to post is http://www.imagin.za.net/forum/index.php - works something like the principle based on the 'Pay it Forward' movie with that kid who saw dead people...

Okay sorted

Hey Sorry All

I hate to be the type that starts a thread and then doesn't respond, just that I was away on business and just got back. I just private mailed Aubrey to come and collect the ADSL modem. So it's gone to a worthy cause.

I happened to notice DOOM 3 the other day, now damn I haven't played that game since DOOM 1. I checked out the system requirements and before I knew it I'd completely overhauled my puter, graphics card, 5.1 sound card, speakers, RAM, DVD/CD player, motherboard, right down to the frikkin PSU. So now I have loads of components, but this time I'm not giving them away, they're going into my dad's computer.

You see every time he sees the popup message from MWEB about their accelerator software (for dialup) he redownloads it, he seriously believes that now he has downloaded it three times he's getting speeds of 30% faster than normal. What am I to do with him?

Best option I think is to contribute to a real sys for him, that could run XPSP2 and the various other antispyware progs that would get rid of all this popup ****e in the first place, and help my clueless dad to be a safer surfer.

Over n out
