I know someone who worked with the bid committee for the 2006 bid and apparently most are incapable of cutting a sandwich. Blatter is hacked off and sent a warning. Blatter is a master at unofficial off the cuff remarks. I think it's very worrying.

Let us hope we make it. Even if it costs us an arm and a leg. Who knows what will happen if we don't, the politicians will probably blame racist whites, indians and coloureds for their incompetance. That might lead to a rather unhappy situation.

Hey after 2010 we can all emmigrate for a couple of years and let the people who vote for the ANC pick up the tab.

The BBC is at it again.
England was not ready to host the world cup 2006 and yet they are all of a sudden a standby venue for 2010. How is that possible? They submitted a bid that was far inferior to what SA submitted. How can they be ready when they have built only 2 stadiums since then?
The Europeans were always going to be sore about the fact that they will not host the world cup for a long time owing to the system of rotation. It's they get through their heads that football is for all and not just Europe.

Only God can stop SA 2010 World Cup

Fifa president Sepp Blatter said on Monday that only God can stop South Africa from hosting the 2010 World Cup.
Blatter, who is in the country to assess the progress made by the hosts who are reconstructing, or building totally new stadiums to host the world's biggest sporting event.

"Only God can stop South Africa from hosting the World Cup," the Fifa president said boldly, "but we ask for the Lord's blessing to make this first World Cup in Africa to be successful."

At the end of April reports surfaced that Blatter said there are other countries ready to host the World Cup if SA failed to complete the stadiums on time. Englan, Australia and Germany were mentioned as countries ready to take over if SA failed.

Blatter though was unerring at the media briefing which took place on the grounds of the FNB Stadium, which is under intense construction.

"Germany can definitely host the World Cup in 22 years time," he said jokingly. "I have complete confidence that everything is being done accordingly and that SA will host the World Cup, it is not going to any other country.

"I was going to bring my pick-axe to help out with the construction but as you can see (behind me) that they don't need my help," he said.

"Dr Khoza and Dr Jordaan have also provided information about the progress and I'm happy with what they are doing.

Blatter will fly to Cape Town tomorrow to visit the construction site of the Green Point Stadium which is also under reconstruction. His trip to Cape Town will include meeting President Thabo Mbeki and Cape Town city mayor Helen Zille.

"Tomorrow I will go to Cape Town to see the Green Point stadium and to speak to your president, whom I know very well, we have spoken before. I will also meet the mayor of Cape Town Helen and hopefully it will all come to a point when I visit the stadium," he joked again.

Before Blatter jets off to the Mother City he will open the Fifa World Cup business oportunities conference which is taken place at Emperors Palace.

No doubt, as well, that Eskom will loadshed like hell to make sure his hotel / places of his wherabouts have 100% electricity uptime.

You must be nuts. I'm renting out my house, my garage and my garden shed to the highest bidder. Then I'm buggering off to somewhere nicely remote for the duration. Tsodillo or Drotsky's or Epupa appeals to me but will probably have to settle on Etosha or somewhere to keep the family happy
