250gig HDD

Hi all

I have just bought a 250gig hdd and its only being displayed as a 232.88gig, is there any way i can get it to be a higer capacity or is that just how much space is avaliable on a 250gig HDD???? Or do i need new drivers????

232 GIGS is correct for a 250 GIG HDD.

Nope thats right..HDD manufacturers quote the size where 1000bytes = 1KB so
250*1000^3/1024^3=233.8 gigs

232.88*1024*1024*1024 bytes = 250052995973 bytes
Using skilful marketing BS:
250052995973 bytes=
250052995973/1000/1000/1000 Gb = 250Gb!!!

I believe that western digital just got suit about this very thing ... and they lost... but this seems to be the industry standard....hopefully they will change this because of this ruling
