A Suggestion on caps

Ok here is my suggestion. Many other overseas ISP do it. Well the ones that have caps anyway. They have 30gb and 50gb 100gb cap btw.
Any way.

Why not only count bandwidth during office hours?
In other words. After hours or even call more times , your traffic should not count towards you bandwidth usage.

Would be better that the current pathetic situation, Damn you Telkom scum!!

I agree but you might as well ask for free petrol and lower taxes while your are at it

And what is this I hear about local capping. Thats just crazy. I feel like organizing a march down the N1 chanting "Hak! Hak! Telkom is..... not so great!"

If other countries are able to provide uncapped 1 Gigabit I see no reason why the same cannot be provided here. Unlike food bandwidth doesn't need to be grown. You lay down the cable and you have your pipe. The technology doesn't need to be payed off as its already been developed.

If I understand correctly, Telkom owns the overseas (submarine) line and they can do pretty much anything they want to.

The sooner that changes the better for us all.

But in the mean time I can't see why they can't atleast give us unrestricted "after hours" usage. (If bandwidth is a problem).

I'm sure that line can't be maxxed out that easily, I hope not atleast.
If you go through the trouble of putting down a line between two countries or whatever the case may be.. You sure as hell make sure that you wont have to do it again in 5 years time.

Yea, I think the majority of this forum would agree that that could very easily be implemented.
But it seems that there isnt an ISP that has the guts, imagination or brains to implement anything remotely like that.
no-one is able to think out side the box it seems.

Slow down there Simple_Twist_of_Fate...
The only person that sells ISP accounts in SA are Telkom. The ISP's have to buy them from telkom then resell them to their customers.
If Telkom come along and say "We got 2 gig, 3 Gig and 10 Gig account available" it makes it hard for the ISP's to setup their own pricing structures..
I think that already the pricing of the accounts is pretty low (It can probably get a bit lower) but ISP's need to make some money as well.

The next bit is that Correct me if I'm wrong, but telkom do all the accounting on their side. once you break cap, they block you, not the ISP which means that again, the ISP _has_ to do things telkoms way and can't do it their own way..
