ADSL and e-mail hosting

I am hopefully getting my ADSL line installed soon and I am faced with making a decision about my e-mail address. With the current ISP price war and not knowing what is going to happen once Telkom implements the new pricing model in three months or so, I expect to be switching ISPs often once I get ADSL. (I am definitely not paying M-Web/Tiscali R329 for 3 gigs)

I do not want to go through the hassle of changing my e-mail address every time I switch ISPs so I want to find a host for my e-mail independant of my ISP. I am thinking of getting an Ananzi Mail Plus account. A 50MB mailbox with POP3 access for R199.00 for 24 months.

Does anyone have any experience with Ananzi Mail or know of a good LOCAL site where I can host my e-mail account? I know Gmail also offers POP3 access but they are not local and they are invitation only.

I would suggest using host4africa or Webafrica and for R10pm-R20pm plus the initial Domain regestation (Should be around R220) you can have a website and your own email domain and stacks of email address's.

mystic, by chance I signed up with Ananzi very soon after they went live, (hence I have my four letter name as e-mail address , and I am still with them for precisely the reasons you are concerned about.

I used to be on free which offered pop access, but when they changed that into a paid service I signed up immediately. I have not had one single problem with them since day one (1999 if I remember correctly), and when they do excpect downtime for maintenance or whatever the case might be, they let you know long before hand.

I can definitely recommend them.

Well if you get a high cap account I don't see any reason why you can't use Gmail. If you want an account just PM me. Look at a 30GB account and consider going with Gmail. It's what I do and it works great.
