ADSL Fax Software

Hi every one

I new here so yet to figure out how all this works, anyways i need help i have been to look for Fax software that supports ADSL. I want to send and receive faxes through my pc n ADSL line. Can anyone help me please?
 
I may be wrong, but I don't think it's possible to use your ADSL router/modem.
But, seeing as your ADSL line functions as a telephone line as well, you just need a cheap standard fax modem.

If you've got an old one lying around, it won't cost you anything.

Otherwise, you can get cheap 'n nasty internal fax modems for under R100, or USB fax modems for under R200.

It's then just a case of either setting up the WindowsXP fax services, or getting yourself other software.
 
You can't do faxing via ADSL ... have to use a normal dialup modem on your ADSL line and use faxing software but pay per minute as per voice calls.

This ADSL thing is probablee confusing you, you still have the normal telephone line on an ADSL enabled line.
i.e. Once your line supports ADSL, it can still do the usual faxing stuff that it always used to do.

Now - if you're talking about an online faxing service, then that's a whole bunch of different fish, but it's usually a case of you emailing the "Fax" to some email address, and that email address then delivers it to the recipient using the cheapest method available.

Its NOT possible using your ADSL line as a Fax line...
 
How about using a email to fax service? There are several available in SA.
 
Thanks guys and gals you have been a great help to my little quest so basically in order for me to receive a fax i'd still need a modem connected to my line. Will give it a try and also try out that fax to email goody.....Thanks for the tremendous help :) highly appreciate it.
 
Hey all

We had a similar dilemma when customers using MyWireless asked us how they could send faxes "like they used to do on their dialup connection". In response we set up www.faxmagic.co.za. This works like a charm and has a whole host of advantages over a "regular" fax machine including:
* Line is never engaged
* Never run out of toner or ink
* Don't waste paper with spam or junk faxes
* Receive faxes directly into your inbox. These can then be printed, saved, forwarded etc

And best of all it is free to use so go ahead and give it a go.

speaking as an ancient anarchist, I recall the happy days of sending an entire dictionary to someones fax machine, knowing that they're using up 'real' paper - while I'm using a little bit of time and a copy of WinFax. Not that I'd suggest using up Iburst, Sentech or Telkom's 'real' fax paper this way, but..

Hmmm :D

What comes to mind here is a laptop, a public phone box and about R100 in coins :D

You'd need one of those uber-80's geeky looking modem "cradle" gadgets of course and it would need to be a public phone box that doesn't get a lot of customers. The idea is to remain anonymous.

How long would it take to send through an entirely black page ?
Or possibly a page with a grid pattern on it ?

Hey - how about fax via Skype ?
 
www.faxmagic.co.za is bit of a problem if you recieve calls from overseas:

* FREEFAX Number can only receive calls from within South Africa. International callers will not be able to send you fax. Calls to FREEFAX numbers are charged at R2.02 per minute (ex VAT).
 
You will need your good old 56k for that, then use BitWare or winfax to manage it.
 
I use an old 56K modem with Widows Fax on my XP machine.

To install Windows Fax Service if you are using Windows XP, go to your Control Panel and click on Add Remove Programs.
On the left hand panel, click on Add/Remove Windows Components.
It will do a bit of searching and then the second option in the list of Components is "Fax Service".
Tick the check box as it is not enabled by default.
Click Next and Finish.
It might prompt you for the Windows XP CD.

It is not a very complex program and has little functionality, but is OK for just receiving faxes, which is all I need it for.
I use an old Paper Fax Machine to send faxes.
 
Ananzi email also overs a fax2mail service free of charge. You can set up a mail filter to forward it to your current email addy if you don't want to be botherd with checking your ananzi account for new messages.
 
Thanks for all your help guys. I have resorted to have a modem installed on the pc and running dat thru the ADSL line. also have a scanner as well in case dey wanna send out faxes. works like a charm n da client is happy.

So what software did you use in the end.
