AfriForum sends warning to Eskom

Pfff. Those are rookie numbers.
From my City Power (Jhb) account:
Service charge: R304.12 (ex VAT)
Network Charge: R985.11 (ex VAT)
Total: R1289.23 (ex VAT) = R1482.61 (incl VAT)

So just shy of R1500pm before using any electricity.

That's because Jhb is the richest city.

Now imagine getting solar and still paying that after you disconnect from the grid.

I installed solar earlier this year. My usage for this month was 117 units (R337.28 ex VAT, R387.87 incl VAT, R3.31/unit).
So, the fixed fees make up about 75% of my bill.

I'm planning on installing another battery, and then disconnecting from the grid completely.
Then I'll support whichever organisation fights the madness of paying for something you don't use.

As soon as the wife retires we moving to an Eskom direct area and going off grid, I would rather pay the fee for not using them then use them to be honest. I suspect they are going to push the price up on an annual basis anyway and people will go bankrupt in the end anyway.
Well, an eskom direct area would have no way to charge you solar tax if you were off grid unlike a muni who just adds it to your rates bill.
