Alternative firmware for Linksys

I've install DD-WRT (www.dd-wrt.com) firmware on my WRT54G (micro version), WRT54GL (standard version) and WAP54G (micro version) devices. It's absolutely fantastic. Do you know of any other cool firmware available for the units? :)

The WRT54GL is simply a re-branded version of WRT54Gv4. It is Linux based. http://www.wrtrouters.com/firmware/wrt54gl/

DD-WRT: Based on Sveasoft's Alchemy, Many Features (Latest Version: v23 SP1)
Ewrt: Allows users to create hotspots (Latest Version: .03 beta3)
Freifunk: Based on OpenWRT, Accepts Software Installations (Latest Version: 1.0.5)
HyperWRT: Mininal extra features, fast, for most users (Latest Version: 2.1b1)
Linksys: Official Firmware, least features, most stable (Latest Version: 4.20.7)
OpenWRT: Advanced firmware, Linux experience required (Latest Version: White Russian RC5)
Sveasoft: One of the most popular, many features (Latest Version: Alchemy)
TinyPEAP: Based off Sveasoft's Satori, this stable RADIUS server is great for advanced users. (Latest Version: 2.50)
Thibor: Based on HyperWRT with more featuress. (Latest Version: 15c)

There are definitely others out there, but DD-WRT is the best if you don't want to have to SSH in every time you want to change something.
 
Is Linksys even a good brand? Not many people using it...:rolleyes:
 
They use Cisco Systems technology. Cisco has been a good make for routers and network equipment for many years. That connotation alone should make Linksys a good make. I've tried a few makes including Gigabyte, Planet, Senao DLink etc. and must say that of all of them, I still prefer the Linksys. Buy a WRT54GL with Linux on it and put DD-WRT on it and you'll see all the possibilities that come to light. Your R600 router suddenly is doing the job of a R3000 router.

And that is a fact. Very happy with DD-WRT and the functionality it added to my network. Can't wait for version 24!

I don't care about the Cisco branding. What I do like is the WRT54GL with DD-WRT. IMO anyone with enough money can buy any brand. In Cisco's case they needed a brand to penetrate the SME's and home users which would not buy a Cisco product due to price so they bought one and added their brand to it.
